The Media Lost Their Minds Over The New Florida Gun Law. But Violent Crime Dropped. (msn.com) "In July 2023, when Florida became the 26th state to adopt constitutional carry through House Bill 543, media outlets and Democrats unleashed a wave of criticism, predicting an increase in violent crime. Corporate media and anti-gun advocates were quick to condemn Florida’s move toward constitutional carry. Headlines such as “Following mass shootings, DeSantis signs permitless carry bill” from NBC News and Forbes amplifying rhetoric from gun control groups set the stage for a fierce debate. Even the White House joined in, with Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre calling it “shameful” and the “opposite of commonsense gun safety.”" But now, the numbers are in "The most notable reduction occurred in Miami, where homicides went from 49 in 2022 to 31 in 2023 – the lowest recorded number in the Magic City. Additionally, non-fatal shootings in Miami decreased by 34 percent, and non-contact shootings saw a notable decline." Now, hopefully its just as obvious that Const. Carry is not likely the sole reason for this sharp decline in violence as it is that Const. Carry is very likely one large contributor to this sharp decline in violence. Crime and violence are very complicated problems with a great many factors. But what isn't complicated is the simple logic that when criminals are more afraid of getting shot, they are also more hesitant to commit crime. That's why, despite the outcry and outrage and predictions of apocalyptic violence erupting in Florida when conceal carry laws were relaxed, many of us knew the opposite would happen. And it has.
As one who does not carry, but with several friends who do carry here in Florida, I am always happy to know that armed citizens (and friends) are around.
That's the collectivst (or perhaps communal) nature to self defense that the willfully unarmed rarely seem to grasp. My house isn't low crime because I have guns, rather the area where I live is low crime because it's perceived (and accurately so) that so many of us here have guns that crime in general is more of a risk. There isn't really a defineable line between self defense and civil defense; when enough people are prepared for and participating in self defense, they both effectively become the same thing- communal defense.
in reality, crime control has almost nothing to do with what motivates gun banners so if a pro gun owner law reduces crime, they still hate it
