Iran is a major player in the Syrian crisis. They, along with their new allies in Baghdad, and the Russians are the principal packers of the Assad regieme. I thought I ought to point that out. Otherwise we are pretty much in agreement. I would also note that few Americans know much of anything about the various rebels in Syria, much less the ethnic, tribal and historical context of the crisis. All of these things are very important. The Bush adminstration's casual dismissal of that reality is one of the reasons its policy in Iraq was such a disaster.
