Sadly, it becomes increasingly likely that "the next JFK" won't be Peter Paul Montgomery Buttigieg. About all he's been able to do recently is pal around with self-aggrandizing, racist creeps like Al Sharpton and then bitch about how we should villainize Thomas Jefferson because (like MANY upper-class farm owners of 200 years ago), he owned slaves. :cynic:

I had sincerely hoped that there was something better about Buttigieg than that! But if all he can do is hang out with Black radicals and condemn the calibre of men who really did make America great, then he can go jump on the same trash-pile as "Dizzy Lizzy" Warren, Kamala-la-la Harris, little Mikey Bennet, ex-Colorado Governor (GOOD RIDDANCE!) John Hickenlooper, and the rest of that politically-correct, America-hating faction.

The next JFK may well be someone who is so far proving to be quite intelligent, thoughtful, and "a clear cut above" the bottom-feeding rabble that radicial-Democrats seem to be so enamored with today. That Democrat candidate is Andrew Yang!

A JFK type would never make it past the DNC to get into the general election so this is nothing more than a academic exercise.

You don't need to shout at me DT. You wanted to discuss the topic. You posted the thread. You must be open to other opinions.

We have a system. Are you saying that system does not work?

My solution? To follow your line of thinking, the very best, in fact the only way that would work is for everyone, without exception, making >/=$72,001.00, should pay a greater amount of taxes on a progressive scale to support this $1000.00/mo or more based on inflation, you want to give to all but only if they who make </=$31,000/year based on inflation. At that point, you pass a law that says companies must keep up with inflation every year, increasing wages/salaries as necessary. Unions used to negotiate for inflation based wages. It is nothing new.

You would be better off having businesses, as entities and not humans, paying no taxes. Charge a flat tax based solely on total gross income from all sources and have no exceptions or write offs(for all), period. Anyone making less than or equal to 31k/year does not pay taxes, and that is progressive by inflation.

Now, you will have to be concerned with the option of those who will give up and not take a job for more than the highest rate that receives income from others. The solution would be a program where they are dropped from the roles, unless they have a true medical condition that does not permit them to work. However, you would also need to take into account the disability payments they are receiving. I'm not sure what to do with those, if anything. I only realize they must be consolidated into the same department so there is a reasonably good chance they will not be overlooked and receive too much, while others suffer.

The unfortunate thing is, these folks receiving this money will have to be working to improve their lives and not continue to receive this money for their entire lives. I'm not sure how to go about that.

Some could receive help to get to some sort of education, but they don't need to be receiving a full boat ride through higher education, unless they have proven their high value. Then, the system that offers grants and full rides to college now, can be similar to the new one.

What is wrong, in my opinion, is the way the state and local governments then charge taxes based on total gross income when you no longer have that after paying taxes to the feds. It does not make any sense. Each should be a flat tax with no write offs nor exceptions for anything.

As you see, it's not as simple as folks make it sound. It's damn complicated and so twisted with so much going on from different sources, it's nearly impossible to say, "tax the wealthy".

Even though I voted for Trump in 2016 and will probably do so again in 2020, I grow more and more impressed by Democrat candidate Andrew Yang! I don't know that he's a "JFK", but his credentials put him head-and-shoulders above anybody else I've seen bubbling up from the septic tank of the Democrat Party today.

He's accomplished, intelligent, and he has the mental makeup of a SCIENTIST, which is an attribute we need in the 21st-century. The last thing we need are any more America-hating, pandering creeps whose only talent is trading more welfare programs for votes!

His greatest obstacle is probably the fact that he's not some America-hating, mixed-race "minority". Oh -- yes, he comes from an excellent East-Asian (Oriental) family -- but he isn't 'Latino' or some percentage of Black. And the Democrat Party doesn't seem to have much use for anyone of Oriental parentage....

upload_2019-5-22_8-38-26.png . "Yeah, you guys don't want some 'Oriental' running your country... right?" .:cynic:

Yang has less of a chance to win the presidency as a white male does of DNC giving him the nomination so I havent paid any attention to him.

If the election was tomorrow, my vote would probably go to Howard Shultz though.

None of the above negates what I posted.

JFK was an intelligent man and more than capable of seeing through the fallacies of the extreme rightwing.

So in essence you are saying JFK if alive today wouldn't be JFK so in reality you are saying nothing at all. JFK was who he was and did what he did and today's democrats would consider him no better than reagan. Your artificial JFK of today conjured up in your own fertile imagination is nothing but a fictional character projected on a screen of delusion.
in fact JFK wouldn't even be welcome in today's Republican party. He was too conservative even for them. How far left we have gone.

I dunno, Jimmy. It looks more and more like the Democraps are going to run with 'Geriatric' Joe and then throw their America-hating Black/Latino cadres a sop in the form of 'Kamala-la-la' Harris, or maybe the 'Spartacus' Booker creature. An intellectual ACHIEVER like Yang is probably way too far above their politically-correct mentalities....

But with some PC-oriented candidates, all they have to do additionally is promise enough more 'free stuff', subsidies, and welfare, and, yes, they'll probably win....

Thank you for your detailed response.

    I have two questions.

    1. Have you read Yang's detailed proposal on how to pay for UBI? (It is on his website.)

    2. Are you aware of the MASSIVE PROFITS that corporations will enjoy when they lay off these millions of hardworking Americans?

To use a simplistic example let's take a truck driver earning $50k pa. Assuming he also has benefits that would make his total cost to the trucking corporation around $70k pa. Now he is laid off and replaced by a self driving truck that can stay on the road 24*7 only needing to stop and refuel. The human driver was only allowed to drive a maximum of 60 hours per week whereas the automated truck now capable of 160 hours per week.

The corporation can now accomplish the same amount of haulage with HALF the number of trucks in their fleet. So not only does the corporation SAVE the overhead of $70k pa per driver but they also save a fortune on only needing half the number of trucks. The minor overhead of retrofitting the trucks to use the AI technology is a one off cost and is a tax write off over 5 years so it will be a minor factor in the equation.

Trucking corporations are set to make an additional $160 BILLION in additional PROFITS by switching over to self driving trucks. Assume that one million drivers are laid off that comes to a PROFIT of $160k per driver per year. Deduct $12k from that to pay for the UBI and the corporations are STILL making over $150k profit per year per driver or $152 BILLION in profits.

Why should those profits only end up in the OFFSHORE bank accounts of the wealthy elite when millions of hardworking Americans are facing lives of poverty and destitution?

In case you MISSED the CLARIFICATION here it is AGAIN!

What we are looking for is someone with JFK's LEADERSHIP attributes.

Do you know what those are and can you give us an example of one of them?

As a rock-solid Right-wing Conservative, I rarely agree with Te on a great deal, but much of what he points out here is quite accurate and to-the-point. Moreover, he's just scratched the surface. The place where I'm storing up anger and venom is against all these rotten, stinking pharmaceutical companies! If even half what I'm told by my friends in Germany is true (and, yes, it is), along with what we are discovering about how 'Big Pharma' screws Americans SPECIFICALLY (because they can), then the FTC and the DOJ needs to go into their boardrooms like avenging angels!

It gets even better -- now we're finding out that they actually manufacture more and more drugs in China and India. Who does "quality control" in those places?!

His handling of the socialist dictatorship countries of Russia and Cuba is something that goes down in history. Using his name for socialist agendas is sacrilege.

Rock solid? Okay. What is accurate and to the point? Big business makes big money and will make more when everything is automated? That takes like half a brain cell to figure out.

All companies screw anyone they can and as often as they can.

Now, let me know who made them able to do that, please. Tell me which laws and regulations, who introduced them and who passed them.

Will the current stance on immigration help or hurt the outcome after automation takes over everything. When will this all occur that no one will be working any more? Will it be five, ten or fifteen years?

Will a loaf of bread cost more or less with the automation in place? How will demand affect supply?

Don't forget to check this article out. There is a lot of fear mongering going on. If you are young, check things out when you calm down and can think. This fear they are attempting to cause in you is their only tool to control your votes. Don't let it. Find your courage. You have it. Think for yourself and vote with your brain, not your emotions. Emotional decisions usually lead to mistakes that can't be easily repaired. That's their goal.

You and I are on the same page as far as the GREED OBSESSED Big Pharma is concerned, Cy.

One of the drugs my spouse needs costs $55,000 a year here in the USA while the generic equivalent costs less than $300 a year in India and yes, they still make a profit on it over there.

Now the greed obsessed are INCREASING the prices of GENERICS by 1000% in one instance.

The problem is that this will not stop until we REPLACE the Establishment politicians with outsiders like Yang and the Progressives who are elected via ActBlue instead. Then they only answer to We the People and don't need to waste time on gratifying the Wall Street Casino Bosses and Big Pharma.

The GOP's FISCAL MALFEASANCE policies enabled Big Pharma to screw over We the People. The Medicare Part D SCAM was passed by a GOP CONTROLLED Congress and signed into law by Bush jr. This SCAM allows Big Pharma to charge whatever they like for drugs and Medicare IS BANNED from negotiating lower prices.

Are you aware that Forbes is just PIMPING for the Wall Street Casino SCAMS?

Name three programs that have been implemented here in the USA that will "prepare" our population for wholesale automation of their jobs.

Those programs DO NOT EXIST and even if they did exist history has proven that they will be a DISMAL FAILURE just as they were when factory jobs were outsourced.

Here in Colorado our Governor Jared Polis (D), has signed legislation making it legal to have prescriptions filled for our state's citizens in Canada and shipped directly here. Unfortunately, it can't go into effect until there is some sort of additional action taken at the Federal level. I just hope that Big Pharma doesn't get the opportunity to defeat initiatives like this one here in Colorado, and one like it in Florida, with their bought-and-paid-for lobbyists and stooges at the Federal level. Supposedly (supposedly), President Trump is in FAVOR of allowing this measure to take effect (which may or may not be true -- medicine is, as you know, very BIG business). You know I'm an unrepentant right-winger, Te, but this is certainly one area where I expect Trump to step up and DO something that has a measurable effect on drug prices, which are beyond obscene in the United States!

Unofficially, of course, a lot of people are SAID to have been getting their prescriptions filled in Canada and having them shipped to various locations in the States for years, so, it's not like this is a totally new process....

Truthfully, if liberal Democrats would spent more time and energy in these areas that are of very great importance to ALL Americans instead of all their mindless, doctrinaire, pedantic rants about "inclusiveness", "diversity", and "racism", they'd probably be surprisingly successful in being more persuasive, even to hard-core economic Conservatives like me.... :oldman:

The ability to obtain generic drugs from overseas has been SHUT DOWN by Big Pharma. That alternative generic for my spouse cannot be imported into the USA any longer because Big Pharma filed lawsuits and patent claims all around the world. International shippers like Fedex won't ship any of these drugs because of these lawsuits.

The worst part of this is that it is essentially extortion. Either pay Big Pharma the exorbitant amount they demand or your loved one DIES!

Big Pharma believes that it is ABOVE the Law of the Land and until we elect representatives willing to face down Big Pharma we are ALL hostages to their extortion.

Corporate GREED is KILLING people, quite literally!

As far as politicians pandering goes that is what they do. The GOP panders to the gun obsessed, white nationalists and fundamentalists who oppose abortion which makes them even less appealing to a fiscal conservative like myself than the pandering Dems on the other side that you just described.

That is why I am an Independent and I am looking at ALL of the Progressives like Andrew Yang to find people who are NOT panderers. I want STRONG representatives who will tell Big Pharma and the Wall Street Casino where to shove their bribes. It is immaterial to me which party they belong to as long as they are willing to actually REPRESENT We the People and NOT the GREED obsessed corporations.

I, too, know people quite well who must take what are now VERY expensive prescription drugs (I'm an old guy, and so I know a lot of 'old' people). I also have German friends who are absolutely appalled at how much we Americans are charged for drugs.

This is coming straight off the top of my head, Te, but would it be possible for you or your spouse to fly to Europe for a couple of days and get prescriptions filled there maybe three or four times a year (get the doctors to write the prescriptions in special ways to allow more quantity than usual)? I know it sounds stupid, but you might actually save a hell of a lot of money over and above the cost of the flights, hotels, etc.

I must admit that it is exactly this kind of obscene bullshit that makes us on the Right wither into silence in our debates with liberals. There is no (NO) excuse for these PREDATORY pricing practices. Big Pharma screws Americans to death, simply because they CAN. They should be able to make a reasonable profit, but what they've done to prescription prices in the past ten years is criminal! We Americans are forced to subsidize prescription drugs for the rest of the f*cking PLANET, and that is also criminal!
