The NRA donated $10,000 to help train the Parkland shooting suspect to use a rifle

Nikolas Cruz, the 19-year-old who charged with murdering 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High, honed his marksmanship skills in a school program supported by the NRA. Cruz was, according to the Associated Press, a member of the school’s four-person varsity marksmanship team, which received a $10,000 grant from the NRA in 2016.

The NRA declined to comment on the donation. In 2015, the NRA Foundation gave $2.2 million in similar grants promoting gun use to schools around the country. This includes grants “to elementary and middle schools.”

The NRA Foundation’s website says it’s “investing in the next generation of America’s leaders” by devoting “a significant majority” of the group’s grants to “youth shooting sports.”

Not only did the NRA train the Parkland shooter, they are training future shooters in our elementary and middle schools. The NRA needs school shootings now that they don't have Obama to scare their gun nuts into thinking the government will take their guns away with pro gun Tramp in office.

They didn't train anyone, they gave a grant to the schools marksmanship team.

    You're peddling Fake News.

The left's goal is obvious, associate the NRA with every shooting in order to weaken them as a lobby. But they'll never mention the Muslim bomb makers who were educated in chemistry in this country.

Which trained him to shoot at targets as small as a coin. The NRA paid for his training therefore he was a NRA trained murderer.

No he was not. The NRA isn't at fault anymore than the Pillars of Education can be blamed for having a Marksmanship team and putting him on it.

Want to blame the school too?

Look at the ridiculous position trotting out a Thinkprogress take has put you in....

Just so you know, my son and I went through an NRA sponsored training class about 5 years ago and it had nothing to do with shooting, but it had everything to do with safety.

You people constantly talk out of your uneducated and uninformed pie holes and act like you're speaking the absolute truth.

I did 4 years and 9 months in the Air Force. During that time, I was not a member of the NRA, and, as a pencil pushing weather observer, I only, officially, touched a firearm once a year when I had to qualify with a rifle. Trust me, I never did see the sense of being expected to know how to hit a target when you only got a couple of hours with a gun once a year. However, I understand firearms and managed to achieve expert for the first four qualifications.

Then, I was sent to Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska. I spent two years spending my money and spare time on guns and shooting, all on my own without Air Force training or the NRA. When I got to my last assignment at McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey and did my final qualification, I fired a perfect score. I was offered a position on the base rifle team on the spot, but I was about to get out of the Air Force and couldn't accept it.

The point is that without official training of any kind, if I had been that nut job in Florida with an AR-15, multiple magazines, and a mass of confused overlapping, unarmed targets in a confined space, I would have set a record for mass murder that would only have been exceeded by World leaders like Hitler and Stalin.

Blaming the NRA for any of this is the activity of brainless fools.

When I went to school we had archery in gym from grades 7 through 12. Arrows kill people and the school was teaching us how to aim them. Does that make the school responsible if I shot someone with an arrow?

You can tell who the ring-through-the-nose and easily manipulated people are, they're the ones who initially tried to defend this Cruz kid by saying he was bullied to now blaming the NRA when they had nothing to do with it. Blaming the NRA for a shooting is like blaming a driving school if a terrorist uses a truck bomb.

So let me get your claim straight:

Learning marksmanship from an instructor leads to mass murder?
Does supporting gun safety and marksmanship make one an accomplice?

Perhaps we should hold driving instructors responsible when a car is used as a weapon.

This is quite a stretch for a cheap shot on the NRA. I keep hearing how the NRA has bought off the government, but those they give money to already support the second amendment. You would have a point if they gave money to Pelosi for her support!

My wife and I have been target shooting, skeet shooting, hunting, and competing in shooting competitions since we were kids. We are in our early 50's now.

I've taught my daughter the same thing since she was a kid. She is 22 now.

We, along with millions of other American gun owners, have never committed a crime.

So, take your anti-gun hate and scram.

Your title is a complete misrepresentation of the truth.

The NRA didn't "train this shooter", it simply donated money to the school which had a shooting program which pre-dated the donation.

But even if the NRA did "train this shooter" that wouldn't mean a mother ****ing thing.

The NRA is about promoting firearms through their safe and responsible use.

Safety and responsibility are firmly represented in every part.

This subhuman shooter obviously didn't learn that from the training.

The leftist bigotry towards the NRA is the specific result of a leftist attack on an institute that defends rights the left hates and donates to campaigns the left opposes, nothing more.

You are making that statement specifically in on a thread devoted to talking about the Florida shooter, the guy who killed 17 people with a gun, was trained on his firearm with money supplied by the NRA....

Liberal Acadamia trained him. Specifically the school, not the NRA.

Trained by the school with a program that pre-dated any donations.

How come you're not blaming the school?

    Oh right.

Maddow didn't aim you in that direction.

They believe guns are only ever used to kill.

Each of the 11-13 billion bullets that is manufactured each years gets used to kill a person.

Yea that's right ..the math works ..CNN told me so ..deny and you're a racccisss!!

Yeah, except people outside of the conservative side of the spectrum take that point more seriously when I say it because I don't say it like you just did.

To imply that the NRA trains kids to kill other kids is stupid.
