Yep, seizing on the moment, I'm going there. For all the obvious reasons, this is the right time to have a new dialogue on the gun issue, IMO. The Ed Show had a good segment on this subject last night that I thought worth sharing because it discloses the underlying ECONOMIC reasons why the National Rifle Association opposes all gun laws today: the gun industry has been losing money for decades, as the population has become more urban (read: the rural hunting culture has declined). Precisely in concert with that development, the NRA has accordingly become a sort of trade association for the gun business in order to keep it alive. It tends to be the case that, the more rural the state, the looser the gun laws are and vice versa. That's because rural locations tend to have more of a hunting culture and (considering how dispersed rural populations are) minimal gun crime. In urban locales, by contrast, hunting culture is basically non-existent and (since the populations are more concentrated) gun crime is an issue. My state is among the most rural in the U.S. and, accordingly, we have next to no gun laws. You can even own an unregistered gun in Vermont. What's my position on the gun issue? Personally, I'm for melting them down into something useful and constructive. I don't think ANYONE should be armed, be it ordinary people or the police or what have you. That's right, I'm against the Second Amendment. Hey, what do you know, I just said that and didn't die, so maybe it's okay to be against the Second Amendment after all! Anyway, here's the video. Definitely worth checking out.
Right. An unregistered gun in Vermont. Care to tell me what makes it unregistered? Where is the gun registry? I guess I need to get mine registered. lol
