The official PF alcohol thread told me what everybody drinks. Now, How about what everyone does in their free time for recreation or sport. You know like, bottle cap and stamp collecting, painting figurines, watching tv, collecting miniature fairies. You know stuff like that. I have always been into drinking beer and reading books myself.
I read a lot (spend a lot of time on trains, and do most of my reading there). I got a kindle recently, do you have one? I love mine. Also like writing a lot. But I would never look into a serious career in writing, that would ruin the fun. I make a little money here and there doing it, but that's always on my terms.
I don't have a hobby, but maybe this would sorta be one. I'm the assistant Scout Master of my local Boy Scout troop. Both of my sons have been scouts since cub scout age. They're in their teens now and still in Scouts. The former asst Scout Master drifted away and I sorta got lobbied for it. So I said fine. That was 2 years ago and I love it. It means a lot to me.
I like the outdoors so hiking, swimming, rafting, snowboarding, and hunting are at the top of my lists of things to do. When I lived in Boise I would hike to the Table Rock Cross and could look out at the entire Boise valley.
Genealogical/Family History research. This involves spending a lot of time in cemeteries (rain or shine), hours peering at microfilm in libraries, and scouring the Internet for leads. Seriously, this forms a large part of what we do even when we're on vacation. Apart from that, I take a casual interest in sci-fi/fantasy books and movies. If I ever get my house organized, I may actually get back to playing music again (keyboard, and I dabble in bassoon, oboe and flute). It would be fair to say I have an interest in the Arts, generally. I also spend a lot of time trying to keep the flowerbeds from getting too wild. Mainly perrenials (chrysanthemum, daylilies, asiatic lilies, hostas, roses, clematis, lamium, corydalis, sedum, iris, astilbe, achillea, blazing star, choral bells, astrantia, periwinkle, snow on the mountain, hedera, bleeding heart, columbine, azalea, rhododendron, canna lilies - have to overwinter those inside. Edit - forgot the peony tree and Annabelle hydrangea). As for annuals, we have several varieties of pansies, some snapdragons, nasturtium, cosmos, lobelia, catalina and begonias. And a few hanging baskets of impatiens and fuchsia. So the other major pastime would be photographing flowers, and I also manipulate photos to create 'art'. My current avatar is an example, made from a photo of a rose (if memory serves). A few samples at this link
I used to restore/customize old Harleys.....now, I've just started buying small antique outboard motors to restore.
Cool. My dad used to restore old John Deere tractors, and also did a few Cushman scooters. I unfortunately didn't inherit any of his mechanical talent (or at least not the interest therein).
I love tinkering and bringing old mechanical Americana back from the dead....especially that which has heavy 'art deco' influence.
Good topic; Motorcycles, including my Yamaha R6 Anything cars - I sold my project car but I had an STi that I tracked (road course) Working out Anything outdoors - Hiking, camping you name it I am an avid Reader - mostly fiction novels Computers - I am a bit of a computer nerd Drinking - I love me some beers and try to have as many different kinds as possible Traveling - only when the opportunity arises ($$$) That is all I can think of for now, I am sure there is more.
That's great! I was a boy scout, it was fun. Im an adrenalin junky, a gear head, and enjoy working on cars and going fast on four or two wheels, cars, motorcycles, and quads too.
Nice, I love yamaha products, they take pride in their work and it shows. They build some badass stuff. I love the 09+ R1 with the projector beam headlights but i have not had a chance to ride one. Maybe some day. I have had a love affair with a yfz 450 though. Awesome machine. The STi is a cool car. I am partial to mitsubishis evo though.
Me too Sheep. My R6 is insanely fast. I feel like I am on a small rocket sometimes. I can't wait for the day that I can track. I just don't have the money (I can barely afford the bike at this moment). I have been told, once you take the bike to the track you will never want to ride it on the street again. And the R1 !! Maybe some day! I loved my Subaru. I had a nice set-up for the track. I put a lot of time and effort into that car and was sad to see it go. At least the new owner was appreciative of all my work and seemed like he would love and care for the car the way I did. Many of my buddies had Evo's, some were terribly fast too! Still though, I will always be partial to the STi...
Right on man. I have heard many people say that about track riding vs street. I hope you get to keep your r6. If not dont worry, you can always get another later on. My previous bike was Hondas 1000RR, an 05. Fun machine, very nimble and quick but lacked top end. Subaru has most definitely earned my respect. I'm sure the new owner is loving your car.
Lesbian porn, fishing (river and deep sea), duck hunting. Not necessarily in that order. Or maybe they are. I love being outside, fishing and hunting. I think, hunting would be my favorite, especially when it is simply me and I have to really work the ducks.
I know. I am hot. But tha tis not me. I shoudl also state i cycle fanatically, but I just got ducks on the mind.
I program, build robots as well as other automation... things, and avoid reading as much as possible.
