It was only tool thiefs this time but imagine if it was a shooter or terrorist with a knife slicing and dicing. Just knowing they could face these kinds of odds has to make those contemplating violence think twice. Score one for concealed carry.

MARYSVILLE — The plan was simple: Steal tools and pawn them for money.

That’s what two men, 22 and 23, reportedly had in mind when they showed up to the Coastal Farm & Ranch store in Marysville on Saturday afternoon, according to a police report. They allegedly took four nail guns, each worth over $400, walked out of the store and got into a Honda Civic.

They didn’t expect to be surrounded by about six customers with guns raised."

Sadly, gun ownership actually greatly increases the likelihood of a gun-related tragedy. :(

After the assault with a deadly weapon (the vehicle), the driver should have been shot. Mere tires shot isn't good enough.

Yes - owning a gun does INCREASE rather than DECREASE the chances of a firearm tragedy.

So it could be called a somewhat suicidal, and certainly tragic, choice.

Morons. The Seattle disarmament zone stops about 10 miles south of there. Prolly their first venture outside urbania.

The situation in the OP shows how an armed society can and does react to a threat which can and does save lives. Problem for pro gun people is it's impossible to quantify exactly how many lives are saved by a gun as opposed to the easy to quantify number of those killed with a simple body count.

Do citizens have a right to use deadly force in that situation?

Get a license plate number and call the cops. Guns being pulled on shoplifters is madness.

YES...traveling in a motor vehicle does INCREASE rather than DECREASE the chances of a motor vehicle tragedy.

YES...owning a swimming pool does INCREASE rather than DECREASE the chances of a drowning tragedy...

    See how easy that is?

Why would any of the "heroes" leave before the police got there?

No but when the thieves tried to run them over with a car the rules changed.

Rule also might allow them to flee crazy dudes waving guns. Interesting case study here.

I guess the question is did the citizens create a situation in which they may have to use deadly force. I think the answer is yes.

What gun related tragedy? Unless I'm not fully informed on this incident, not a single shot was fired. And a grand theft was prevented.

You didn’t read the article then. The gun owners escalated a non-violent crime to a violent one. Then they fired off shots in a crowded parking lot. Then cleared out before the police got there.

Now there wasn’t a tragedy in this case, but not for lack of effort from some irresponsible gun owners.

Owning a gun = Greater likelihood of gun tragedy. The studies deal with that. Owning a gun puts one in MORE danger of a household firearm tragedy than NOT owning a gun, plain and simple.

    It is easy.

Want to INCREASE your chances of a firearm tragedy rather than DECREASE them?

    Own a gun.

    The sad fact stands.

Why do something which actually makes you LESS safe while claiming it makes you MORE safe?

It's like claiming speeding or swimming drunk are good ideas, actions that make you safer.

The premise of the OP is "Look how awesome guns are - they stop crime!"

When in reality, gun ownership INCREASES one's chances of a gun tragedy.

    Them's the facts, Jack. :(
