Why the media/television is always so emotional, inciting and sensational, has a reason. The more emotion in a population or society, the easier it can be organized. Because emotion is the thing that is causing organisation (is very old, people usually survived on it, grouped together when there was danger)
Same with the most video games and movies, lots of excitement and action, all increasing emotion. This has raised the overal emotion in society, which is not recognized by that society as a problem or danger.
The opposite, suppressing emotions will also lead to an artificial society (this can be seen in the movie Equilibrium)
