    https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2023/04/23/surprising-geography-of-gun-violence-00092413

In October, Florida’s Republican governor Ron DeSantis proclaimed crime in New York City was “out of control” and blamed it on George Soros. Another Sunshine State politico, former president Donald Trump, offered his native city up as a Democrat-run dystopia, one of those places “where the middle class used to flock to live the American dream are now war zones, literal war zones.” In May 2022, hours after 19 children were murdered at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas, Republican Gov. Greg Abbott swatted back suggestions that the state could save lives by implementing tougher gun laws by proclaiming “Chicago and L.A. and New York disprove that thesis.”

In reality, the region the Big Apple comprises most of is far and away the safest part of the U.S. mainland when it comes to gun violence, while the regions Florida and Texas belong to have per capita firearm death rates (homicides and suicides) three to four times higher than New York’s. On a regional basis it’s the southern swath of the country — in cities and rural areas alike — where the rate of deadly gun violence is most acute, regions where Republicans have dominated state governments for decades.

    Another myth falling.

Democratic-led states - and cities - are much safer than red states.

This also shows that violence is closely related to poverty level.... because red states are poorer.

Republicans have always lied about cities being more dangerous than the countryside.

    Thoughts ?

There are more black folks in those states.

    Therefore, there is more poverty.

And most of those crimes are committed in Democrat run cities, not in the rural areas.

Yet the real numbers show what gun violence per race per 100,000 really is.
Since blacks are mostly Democrat, seems we have a Democrat problem with firearms with 13% of the country (which is Democrat) have well over 50% of all gun crimes and triple deaths per 100,000 than anyone else on the planet

    Deaths per 100,000 per race
    State White- Black
    Alabama 8.6- 37
    Arizona 16.4- 29.9
    Arkansas 19 - 45.4
    California 8- 27.1
    Colorado 14.8- 28
    Connecticut 4- 18.2
    Delaware 8.8- 33.1
    Florida 13.1- 24.9
    Georgia 14.7- 25.7
    Illinois 6- 53.7
    Indiana 13- 49.8
    Iowa 10.1- 34.4
    Kansas 14.2- 41.7
    Kentucky 17.4- 47.6
    Louisiana 15.4- 46.4
    Maryland 7.2- 27.6
    Mass 2.6 - 11.9
    Michigan 9.4- 42.1
    Minnesota 7.6 - 21.5
    Mississippi 20.2- 41.1
    Missouri 16.4 - 73.7
    Nebraska 9.5- 23.4
    Nevada 19.7- 28.8
    New Jersey 3.1- 17
    New Mexico 25.6- 46.4
    New York 4- 14.8
    North Car 13.5 - 25.8
    Ohio 10.3- 45
    Oklahoma 20.1- 33.3
    Oregon 13.5- 26.3
    Pennsylvania 9- 42.2
    South Caro 17.3- 35.4
    Tennessee 16.1- 43.9
    Texas 15.9- 25.2
    Virginia 11.9- 24.3
    Washington 11- 18.4
    Wisconsin 9.1- 46

The lowest rate among whites is 2 and the highest is 20
The lowest rate among blacks is 14 and the highest is 53.
    https://www.kff.org/other/state-indicator/firearms-death-rate-by-raceethnicity/?currentTimeframe=0&sortModel={"colId":"Location","sort":"asc"}

So its pretty obvious that 13% of the population is committing more than 50% of all gun crimes.

So more poverty equals more murder/suicide, yet Democrats continue to make more poverty. Interesting.

That bright red does a great job of highlighting New Orleans. I wonder…who runs that town?

Things are kind of bad in the south. Of course, as long as you stay out of the cities, you are safer. That goes for anywhere, really.

Rural counties and parishes have a national average of gun ownership of 26%. Metro counties and parishes have a national average of gun ownership of 19%.

    Guns aren't the problem.

They never used to be the problem, people used to be, but now Alec Baldwin has proved that guns do fire themselves and are living sentient beings, especially revolvers. you sure you don't wanna rethink your statement?

When a black man kills, it is because he is black

    When it's a trans man, it's because he's a trans man.

When he's white, it's because his mom and dad didn't love him.

But it's never the fault of the nightmarish number of guns in circulation in the country.

    False.

You have a study that proves exactly the opposite.

Thats one of the most deliberately misleading graph-maps I've ever seen. It blends not only the cities, but also the states into the most convenient blobs that fit the agenda of the article. Its like gerrymandering, but with gun crime statistics instead of votes.

Except that you have no data to contradict it.

This should be easy, given it's the most misleading graph-maps you have ever seen.

well, at least you got one thing right. i suppose that's some sort of record for you.

when a black man kills, it's because he chose to kill. when a trans man kills, it's because he (or whatever pronoun is trendy these days) chose to kill. when a white man kills, it's because he chose to kill. it is never the fault of the tool involved, whether it's a gun, a knife, a baseball bat or whatever. there are, however, some trends that are disturbing. if you bothered to go beyond the convenient blobs on your map that allow you to blame "them evil right wingers", you might find your entire premise starts to fall apart.

Cities are NOT allowed to do what they want to do wrt guns.

In fact, the general view of the USSC is that New Orleans has to follow the same fundamental laws as Wyoming.

The problem is that in Wyoming, gun owners hunt elk, etc.

In cities, people with guns hunt people - preferably black people.

Has it ever occurred to you that crime has always happened more in cities than in rural areas? If we were to look at history well before Democrats and Republicans do you think the same patterns exist? Do you think 2000 years ago when Emperor Augustus ruled the Roman empire there was more crime in Rome than in the small villages in the surrounding provinces? What 1 to 2 thousand before that when the Pharaohs ruled Egypt do you think there was more crime in Memphis than in the rural farming areas? I think through out civilization there has always been more crime in cities and that will always be the case going forward.

Ahhh check who runs the cities and counties in those states where law enforcement takes place. Check the racial makeup of those cities and counties that skew the numbers for the entire states. Show us a comparison down to the country level then you might have a point.

Sure. Both Chicago and Detroit are in the top 10 US cities for most gun violence per capita. They don't show up on your map because the areas outside those cities are so low in gun crime that they balance out the areas your map was designed to hide to make it look like other areas are the problem. Its not complicated. I dunno who the map was designed to fool... you, I guess.

More volume? Sure. There are more people in a city. But, we're discussing crimes per capita.

    Thoughts?

    BS partisan non-sense.

You came to the conclusion that "democrat led states and cities" are much safer.

    1. How are you using 1 statistic related to guns to draw this conclusion. Not looking at car jacking, assault, armed robbery, rape, among many other violent crimes?

    2. Go pull the data by county or parish in Lousiana, Mississippi, and Alabama regarding where the majority of these crimes are occurring. Then. Loom how they vote.

    3. The stats use a per capita basis, because it serves your confirmation bias. That's like the people that claim Chicago is safe. It's only "safe" because the population makes it appear that way. The violence is actually very very high in a lot of neighborhoods, but citywide the number make it look less like the war zone it is.

The claim the south is poor, or republican areas are less affluent is just BS too. What's really true is that the left is awful at keeping cost of living in check
Thus, their localized inflation gives them a superiority complex. "I make $100k a year and can barely affording housing, but I'm so rich compared to those poor red states who have a 3 bedroom house on 5 acres for $260k"

    It's all partisan hogwash nonsense.

I'll tell you what, you go live in Englwood (California or Chicago) and I'll live in Alabama and we can talk about who does it better.

I was addressing your statement that most crime is committed in democrat cities not in rural areas. Regardless if your statement is per capita or absolute I think that would always be the case regardless of politics and that it has always been the case through out human civilization. I am sure people can argue hundreds of factors for why this is true from simply having more wealth in cities to the psychological conditions of cramming lots of people together but regardless of the reason voting affiliation probably has nothing to do with it. For example Jacksonville Florida has major crime problems but they are in a red state with conservative local leadership. Politics is not the cause. Cities have inherent problems. If you were to compare similar sized cities you may be able to make a better argument but even comparing cities it is hard due to so many additional factors but to compare cities to rural areas is just plain crazy.

Why you avoiding responding to the facts about what you posted.

    Didn't comply with your narrative?

You want to divide this up red/blue... why not divide it up by race?

I'll answer for you, because it makes your BS look like the BS it is.

Any time they use gun violence, I feel it is a slight of hand trick that the left loves to do. I do not think suicide should be included in these statistics. There is a huge difference in taking your life an murder, including both as equal is wrong IMO.

There have always been nightmarish numbers of guns in this country. So if there is a spike in gun crime it isn’t due to gun availability but mental health and numbers of criminals.

and no surprise, Democrats do everything they can to disintegrate mental health and let criminals back out. Lo and behold: gun crime.

    Clean yourselves up
