As I write this, there are 53,000 Americans infected.

Yesterday it was 41,500. That's a 22% increase. And the day is not over...

The number of sick people is increasing at an average of 30% a day since the beginning of the pandemic, doubling every three days.

Without general quarantine of all citizens - as in China - the US will have 1 million cases in 11 days and 10 million 8 days later.

If we get to that number, there'll be bloodshed.

Considering that the figures announced are probably twice as high in reality, we can expect the virus to take the lives of at least 100,000 Americans before "the curve flattens out" as in Italy.

You will find a multitude of data on this website: https://ourworldindata.org/coronavirus

Good luck to all and stay at home.

How many of those cases are life threatening? Total cases is a poor metric...

This isn't sensationalism. It's time to get with the program. This thing is dropping people, real humans like ****ing flies at this point.

No it's not dropping people like flies. Every country is showing similar data as to who is or isn't dying. Rare cases may exist but is the exception not the rule...

I'll take a 100,000. I do not think it will be that high but I would take that and move on towards recovery.

Deaths are going to occur, no way around that. Mother Nature is a bitch. Why crush our economy as well though?

NY is taking up half that number. They need to get things under control there.

We should do the same before the entire country looks similar.

    The "Trump flu" Thats ridiculous

    Corona isn't Trump's fault.

    Ebola wasn't Obama's.

    SARS wasn't Bush's.

And only a handful of cases of herpes was Clinton's.

Imagine if New York had imposed stay at home orders at like 100 or 200 cases.

When will you guys and your thick-headed leader take this seriously? At 100,000 cases? 1 million? 10 million? 100 million? This is ridiculous, you guys are posing serious harm to the country by brushing this off. Put America first, for once. And tell people to stay home.

I’ve been at home since Friday and it’s ok. I need to go to the grocery store about once each week.

I’m not suffering. We can stay at home.

We are putting America first, that is SOP for those on the right.

The economy matters to people and America. You want to talk about damage to America and it's people, see what a global depression will do. Way more than this virus can.

The number of those infected is unimportant. The numbers to watch is the number of people hospitalized and the number of deaths from coronavirus. No one need care about those that are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms, they won't crowd the hospitals. That's why testing the general population is mostly a waste of time and resources.

Or even 500, or even 1,000. NOPE, the jackass did it two or three days ago. Cumou's response is way worse than Trump's. But no one is giving him the ridicule he deserves, except conservatives.

I don't think you understand the magnitude of the drama at play here.

An epidemic doesn't stop overnight. There won't be a vaccine until 2021, so there will be several waves of infection and probably the virus will mutate along the way.

Even if the curve flattens out after 100,000 deaths, after that there could be 1500-2000 deaths per day before a national vaccination campaign.

In Italy, there are 800 deaths every day for 60 million people.

And all citizens are under forced quarantine...

The problem with the asymptomatic is that they spread the virus.

We're basically like containers for the virus, and once the virus leaves us it goes to another container. And so the process repeats until it either kills all of us, or those of us left become resistant(immunity.)

Let's just shut it down and hunker in place til 2021? Your really think that is a option?

It's not, so we develop a plan to start the economy, not hunker down as the walls of the city falls while we pity ourselves.

It's a better option than committing mass seppuku, which increasingly it's starting to look like.
