Today an important soccer game took place in Istanbul, Turkey. The game itself was not that important though, an ordinary European league match, but what makes it important is the current diplomatic difficulty between Israel and Turkey, as you already guessed.

But Besiktas Istanbul won so easily against Maccabi Tel Aviv. The score is 5-1.

I am just saying, guys. This is just the beginning. The next target is the IDF.

Israel has a history of making surprise attacks on its enemies so it would be wise not to make threats.

5-1 is quite a thumping. Still, very small nations have less choice of players. Any arabs in the Israeli team, incidentally ?

It's a credit to sport in general that the Israelis turned up. Congrats to Turkey.

The fact that Israel is permitted to play in European championships is a sham and is clearly a reflection of politics rather than geography...Same thing with the Eurovision song contest.

True. It's possible to support the players and the game though, whilst simultaneously working to have their fascist government expelled. This is hypocritical of me, I know, but I'm a helpless fan of football. Faced with the choice though.........boot the bastards out !

I agree , Israel is certainly NOT part of Europe , apart from being a convenient dump for Europe's unwanted Jews + for those America is glad to see the backs of. . .

In that case turkey should not be included, or kazachstan, or Armenia / Georgia.

Israel is culturally European, and you cannot let Israel play in Iran / S-A / Syria during the Asian matches. Its in the best Interest for everyone to let them play in UEFA.

anyway Israel is (*)(*)(*)(*) at football :D or any other sport.

They should insist on a sniping event to be included in the Olympics.

The Palestinians are favorites for the pole-vault.

    Tel Aviv looks quite European.

Ask the average European if the Turks are a European or Asian people ;) just because you stole Turkey century's ago, and have 2 percent of your land in Europe does not make Turkey a European nation.

you are not in a position to determine that, that 2 percent you are talking about is almost equal to the lands of Switzerland and bigger than Luxembourg, and it involves Istanbul, a city with 16 million people- is in the european continent. (how many cities are there in europe with such a population?)

everybody "stole" lands from someone in history, are you this much hostile to the rest of them also, for example do you tell Americans this:
just because you stole north american land from the natives a century ago, it does not make you north american- do you tell them this too?

to conclude, what you have said is based on nothing, and its just the usual anti-turkish crying- nothing special.

    Ha ha ha ha!

Turkish fans are among the most passionate, and often the most dangerous, in the game.

I recall two Leeds fans being stabbed in Istanbul, and they were just two innocent fans, not seeking trouble.

For what it's worth, as far as European ties go, I don't even think Israeli teams should be in competition.

Turkey is a big enough push, but what part of Europe is Israel in?

All their inclusion does it reduce the number of place for true Euro sides.

Of course, Israel will say that they cannot play in their region, for no one recognises them, as it were.

    *ever wondered why*.

Anyway, they could always play in the same region as their political slaves in the US, against the likes of Canada, Mexico, etc?

That 2 percent is more than any percent of "Israel". Just because Tel Aviv looks European doesn't make it European.

    ----

As for the football match, there was protests before the game too. Just glad Istanbul won, if they lost? Whew....

    But 5-1 haha

According to the Council of Europe, it does. Examine the European political system.

Israeli's have an identity and collective personality crisis.

They are located in the Middle East, a part of the planet so apparently important to them that they steal the land of others, bulldoze their homes, then feel they can be self righteous and indignant.

Israeli's trying to be 'like Europeans', is rather like a man dressing as a women - sometimes, from a distance, the ruse can trick the eye, for a short time. Yet, when you look closer and for longer, you soon realise that it is something desperate to be what it's not.

Of course, many who originally flocked to that land, they were from Eastern Europe, immigrants to be precise. There were already Jews in that land, Jews who had worked and lived alongside Christians and Muslims, for a LONG TIME, and had done so in relative harmony. Until the European Jewish immigrants arrived. Then it all changed. The European Jewish immigrants even treated the Semite Palestinian Jews badly.

Israel is culturally European? Wow, and there I was believing that Jews had a Middle Eastern heritage going back a million years-hence their desire to live there.
How wrong can a guy be?

actually the european song contest isnt related to geography in this instance.
morocco lebanon and algeria have entered and/or competed

algeria Egypt Jordan Libya would be allowed to enter if they so chose to do so

this is because all these counties are members of the european broadcast union
