I have a sneaking suspicion the rise in the prison population will directly correlate with the rise in profitability in maintaining prisons, or the rise of privately owned businesses.

Capitalism's need to make everything a source of profit has actually been allowed to make a business out of jails. Jails. A business that absolutely thrives of the need for criminals.

When you think about it, nothing is more burdensome than holding a bunch of people. You have to feed them, cloth them, and provide medical coverage...technically. A lot of people will simply write off prisoners because..they know everything...but it seems contradictory and an obvious problem that the huge private prison enterprise and the exploitation of the nations minority and illegal population...go hand in hand.
