    The Latest News is

    Supreme Court rejects citizens’ bid to have nationality declared as Israeli rather than Jewish :
    A panel of three judges ruled earlier this week that definition of nationality was not a matter for the court to decide and that it had not been proven that there is in fact an Israeli nationality.

    "Israeli Court Rejects Israeli Nationality Status"

    (JERUSALEM) — Israel’s population registry lists a slew of “nationalities” and ethnicities, among them Jew, Arab, Druse and more. But one word is conspicuously absent from the list: Israeli.

    Residents cannot identify themselves as Israelis in the national registry because the move could have far-reaching consequences for the country’s Jewish character, the Israeli Supreme Court wrote in documents obtained Thursday.

    The ruling was a response to a demand by 21 Israelis, most of whom are officially registered as Jews, that the court decide whether they can be listed as Israeli in the registry. The group had argued that without a secular Israeli identity, Israeli policies will favor Jews and discriminate against minorities.
    In its 26-page ruling, the court explained that doing so would have “weighty implications” on the state of Israel and could pose a danger to Israel’s founding principle: to be a Jewish state for the Jewish people.

    The decision touches on a central debate in Israel, which considers itself both Jewish and democratic yet has struggled to balance both. The country has not officially recognized an Israeli nationality.

    Non-Israelis who marry Israelis must go through a five-year probationary period before receiving citizenship. They receive a temporary visa for one year at a time and must apply to renew it 60 days before the expiration date. Israeli authorities conduct a security check to see whether the applicant has committed security violations during the past year and whether the union is genuine and intact.

    According to the temporary law, Palestinians are not eligible for this procedure.

    Adalah responded to the High Court rejection of its petition saying that the court approved a law "the likes of which does not exist in any democratic nation in the world."

    The organization slammed the law as "forbidding citizens to have a family life in Israel solely on the basis of the ethnic background of one of the spouses."

    The statement added: "This ruling proves to what extent the civil rights of the Arab minority in Israel have deteriorated to an unprecedented an extremely dangerous level."

    More countries internationally recognize the right of Isreal to exist than the right of Palestine to exist.

    What an intelligent and reasoned response to the discussion of an important legal issue in Israel. Epic fail, MGBR!

    Really ? Let's have the facts -

    IMO - While people / humans have "rights to exist" I doubt whether the same applies to countries but see this :

    No nation has a “right to exist”

    Most U.S. politicians have for so long shilled on behalf of Israel’s a historical and deceitful contention that a nation has a “right to exist” that it probably was inevitable they would come to believe the lie themselves.
    While, every country has the right to defend itself according to its own best lights, but no country has a right to exist.

    Its Existence depends on national defence capabilities and a readiness to use war as a last resort to annihilate the few entities that pose life-and-death threats; a determination to avoid cultivating enemies at home and abroad;
    ====

    However - I'd still like to know the names of those countries (apart from Americans) who keep repeating the lie about Israel's "right to exist" and those who object to the establishment of an viable contiguous Palestinian State. Pleeeeez ....
