    It's not hard to grasp.
But as the OP points out, neither party is interested in reducing spending. And past history and actions prove it.

So, it's really not a simple concept. As neither party is interested on doing a reduction in spending.

So the actual choices typically are,

    Tax and spend Dems
    Borrow and spend Rs.

And you'll never have serious reductions in spending as long as you have 53 agencies demanding there funds be increased and engaging in endless turf wars over who controls which bite of the pie.

he lost as an encumbent because of Covid and the endless lies the left told for five years and are still telling today.
Border incursions were at their lowest level in so years when Trump left office even though he had to fight both cheap labor republicans and administrative state bureaucrats to make it happen. Under clueless Joe and Hyena girl as my wife refers to her, more people are crossing the border in a week than crossed in a month under Trump.

I don't believe that is any longer true. The world's central banks have put EVERY nation deeply in debt. Putting them in debt and keeping them there was always the plan of the Central Banks. But they got greedy. Now the debt is so high it can never be paid off; that's not a guess or political, it's a fact.

What's being bandied about now it something called "Modern Monetary Theory". You can look it up and read about the details but basically every nation is playing with house money, un-payable debt if you want to call it that. But the reality is, unless the Central Banks want to give up their cash cow, and they sure don't, they have to come up with a new paradigm. I don't think anyone's sure what that will be yet.

But, for the United States it means we must stay strong and keep our economy robust. Which, Right Now, we have the most robust economy in the world and the strongest military. And while we are deeply in debt the dollar is STILL the strongest currency in the world. NO other nation can compete with our dollar so, unless we do something stupid like destroy ourselves with christian nationalism and tRaitor tRump, our dollar will remain the world's reserve currency. The Central Banks will continue to milk all nations for all they can, but no one is going to call our debt, or anyone else's, it's meaningless ... as long as we stay strong.

Not a fact. Central banks are banks, not the spenders of government funds. It is the governments that overspend and put themselves into debt. The greed is on the part of governments. It is the greed for power and control.

I'm pretty sure that MMT is garbage. It doesn't pass the common sense test.

That we are doing better than some others is a very weak excuse. We are putting ourselves out of business systematically as a nation thanks to government overspending. I can't imagine why that isn't obvious to you.

Then we are doomed. What we are doing is not sustainable. We have an incompetent and corrupt government thanks to an incompetent and corrupt electorate. If the public doesn't see the problem and demand that it be fixed, then there is no hope.

It's apparent you know nothing of how money and debt is created. I'm not sure about MMT either but I am sure the Central Banks have over played their hand; world debt is beyond being paid back. Fiat Money is Monopoly Money, House Money ... whatever you want to call it.

We AbsaByGodLutely are doing better than ANY other nation on earth and the projections are we will far out pace all other nations in the foreseeable future. That's IF we don't do something stupid and elect someone and his backers (tRaitor tRump) who have sworn to destroy our Constitutional government.

U.S. are not putting ourselves out of business, debt IS money (in the central banking system), if there were no debt there would be NO money.

    More than you do.

    Obviously not.

It sounded like you think government overspending is OK because both political parties do it and approve of it. It is good that I was mistaken about that. I don't think anything on this forum changes anything. I just come here for entertainment. I am not going to fix government. I have no more power to do so than you. I enjoy speaking out about why federal government is the biggest impediment to our way of life for the future. It may not help anything else but it helps me to say it.

We could eliminate half those agencies tomorrow and the only ones who would know were the former government workers suddenly filling up the employment lines

Have you been through any of the government shutdowns? If so you probably didn't notice a single thing that changed. I didn't. I couldn't even tell when the shutdowns ended. About 70% of what federal government doesn't belong in federal government according to the constitution. We could get rid of a bunch without missing it at all. If anyone in power wants to work on it I would be happy to provide a list to get them started.

More people are going about daily business everyday also, compared to those time under the pandemic that you like to refer to.
If you want another pandemic so things are better for you, I hope you will be out of luck.

    Not that important.

    Agree.

That's largely the Fed's job, though they could avoid doing things to aggravate the situation like starting wars or imposing tariffs.

I'm not sure why these particular issues have your attention, other than perhaps the debt getting out of hand. Inflation is on the mend.

You must think it's ok also.
All you can do is post about it on an anonymous chat forum.

At least as much as I think it's ok.

The pandemic was one year in four and it was worse than it had to be not because of Trump but because of stupid crap pulled by blue state governors and mayors.

Agree. But that is one thing trump has a proven track record with.

And as they say, he'll have a target rich environment .....

Modern monetary theory is a house of cards that only works until we have inflation.

Its why we haven't been hearing what a wonderful idea MMT is.
