US House Representative Tlaib wrote on Twitter: "I am done with those who condone government funded murder. No more policing, incarceration, and militarization. It can't be reformed." So what exactly is it that people like Tlaib want? Humans are not perfect. When you send out people to use physical force against other people to enforce laws, sometimes bad things are going to happen. That is almost an inevitability. All the more so when physical force is used to try to restrain and control a person who is physically resisting, all sorts of things can go wrong. Throw in the suspect being a big strong man who is not easy to restrain, and acting irrationally because they are under the influence of drugs. Sometimes police have to get involved. But maybe we should be more careful what all our laws are, to minimize the chances of police becoming involved. When you pass a law telling the police to arrest someone, guess what, the police are going to try to do it. The Libertarian position may have a good point here. Now, the question is, who are all these people passing unnecessary laws? Which side do they come from? Are we going to examine them, or only blame the police? Government is not perfect. Some people seem to have a mentality that it is, or can be. If you want government to do something, you should really not be surprised when sometimes they get it very wrong. This fundamental fact probably goes a long way in explaining the difference between Progressive and Conservative perspectives on this type of issue.
I've no doubt Tlaib would prefer a situation in which someone like me is left totally unprotected and at the mercy of those who can sic mobs on others.
This country needs a complete overhaul of it's criminal justice system, all the way from policing to courts and sentencing. It is plain to see the disparity between Whites and people of color.
Democrats actively promote passing more laws. It is like a disease let loose. Pass laws and then pass more laws.
Maybe officer should have to carry their tasers some other place than their firearm or the taser be redesigned not to be shaped like a firearm to avoid these type confusions. As for Tlaib, who cares.
We are all victims of the Media. Who selects what stories for us to all read? The media promotes Democrats. Naturally they want to make Democrats look good and the rest of us look evil. For example. When has the media raised hell when whites get shot down by cops? Name the last white defended by the media that was killed by cops?
In this overhaul will black people stop committing 53% of all murders and 81% of all violent crime while maintaining a 13% of the population in the US?
That's quite a long list but one thing is police training. There are no national standards or certifications for police unlike paramedics or fireman. States are on their own to pick and choose and the best trained police departments have the fewest complaints that translates to better policing. BTW Minnesota police get 280 hours and Hawaii gets over 1000 hours of training.....hmmm
Maybe if black men didn't commit so many violent crimes they wouldn't be singled out by the police like they are. Just a thought I don't mean any ill feelings.
A wise man once said it don't make no difference if you are black or white and ask any white looking male what they think of Rihanna. Booyaka yo know tha doll ,
Black males get stopped by the police more often than White males. Racial profiling. It's not that White males commit less crime.
Maybe when white people get stopped by the police they don't get all violent and resist arrest and get tasered or shot so much. Ever think of that?
That’s not a reasonable explanation for 53% of all murders and 81% of all violent crime. Sounds like an excuse to the rest of us.
I suspect some of it is that blacks are generally poorer and a lot of the pretext stops are for petty things that are used as a pretext. Poor people are going to more likely have a burned out light, a broken signal, expired plates/inspection stickers and the like. I probably see something different in that video from the Navy Lieutenant vid than some people do. I personally thought the younger officer pretty much was in the right because the driver hadn't pulled over and the rear of that vehicle had dark tint. It was when the older officer got there things really started to go sideways fast.
I am sorry you were unable to understand my post. Are there national fire departments or national paramedics? They have national standards for public safety.
You could be right. When Dylan Roof was arrested after killing 9 Black people, he went peacefully. The police officers then took him to Burger King, before taking him to jail. Now, do you believe a Black guy wouldn't have been killed on the spot, as soon as he was identified, after killing 9 White people? I don't care if he was peaceful or not. He would be a goner.
Fire Department and Paramedic training varies from locality to locality. And I don't understand what national policing issue you are trying to remedy with a national standard. Is there a particular police department that had policy and procedures that you want to be brought nationwide?
