I'm no fan of Obama, but I do like to keep things in perspective. Our arrival in Afghanistan and Iraq, our Global War On Terror was begun by his predecessor, Bush & Company.
This was a green on blue attack i.e. the killer was supposed to be on our side. Other Afghan forces killed the shooter, so I am not sure what you expect at this point.
I expect that, just as happened in Vietnam, the Afghani people will rise up and throw out the invading barbarians, however long it takes.
The one thing I was hoping Trump would do, was disengagement from Afghanistan. I'm not going to hold my breath.
It should come as no surprise that US soldiers are getting killed in Aphganistan. We have voluntary military service and getting blown to bits is part of the job.

"W" Bush got us into this labyrinthine mess, BUT, it was President Messiah who campaigned hot and heavy that he would absolutely get us OUT of both Iraq and Afghanistan when he ran the first time in 2008. Today we are still (STILL) mired in both of these piles-of-Islamo-sh*t. Green, blue, purple, polka-dot, pastel -- whatever -- THAT is not the issue. We need to get our American military personnel totally out (OUT) of these Islamo-pisspots once and for all! Obama lied, over and over and over, about so many things. And although Trump never made any specific promises about Afghanistan, per se, I'd like to think he has the common sense and decency to realize that spending 16 years farting around in Afghanistan, getting our people killed for absolutely NO reason at all is stupidity and madness of the worst kind.

As I said, I expect Trump to get us OUT of Afghanistan, because remaining there means simply continuing this incredibly futile stupidity. Obama had EIGHT YEARS to fulfill his campaign promises to get us out (OUT) of both of those Islamo pisspots, but when Trump was sworn into office less than five months ago, we were still mired in BOTH of them. I'm not going to make excuses for Trump. True, he's had a hell of a hard time getting his administration going with all the Democrat obstruction, sabotage, "fake news", and bullshit "investigations" -- BUT -- during his first year in office, I expect a President Donald Trump to wake up and say, "Hey, this whole situation of America in Afghanistan is totally insane!
