: Tim Scott drops out of the 2024 presidential race

Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina announced that he is dropping out of the 2024 presidential campaign.

“I am suspending my campaign,” Scott said in an appearance on former GOP Rep. Trey Gowdy’s Fox News program. “I think the voters, who are the most remarkable people on the planet, have been really clear that they’re telling me: not now.”

    Not surprising.

We are, however, getting the early winnowing of the field, which the "experts" had all claimed was key, to depriving Trump of the Republican nomination. We are not even close to the first Primary, and there are really only four others, vying with Trump: DeSantis the dud, Nicky Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy, and Chris Christie, who is still at about 1% in Republican polls. The only way Christie could do any worse, would be if he announced that his vice Presidential pick is Liz Cheney. But Christie is the only one really pushing back against Trump, yet his bid for the Republican nomination, makes Ralph Nader's Presidential runs, look like stupendous successes, by comparison. Somehow, I'm not very confident that the anti-Trump vote, once it consolidates in one candidate, is going to have what it takes-- certainly not before a Trump criminal sentencing. Even then, a good part of the anti-Trump Republicans might well prefer to support Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., or the No Labels candidate, rather than Ronny the Geek DeSantis.

It was never really clear why he was there or who he was supposed to appeal to.

I would vote RFK over DeSantis. I would vote RFK over Trump too. That is still currently my plan. But this lawfare vs Trump is making him an awfully tempting '**** you' vote against the political elite. If Trump gets taken off ballots, I'm writing in Trump.

Why get so bent out of shape over "political elite"? Someone has to run the country. Take a chill pill.

We're sposed to do that. Instead we seem intent on delegating everything to an increasingly centralized leech class. Im ****ing sick of it. Freedom is not something to chill about. Its important.

Casting "**** you" votes and making the government dysfunctional and corrupt as a result is not helping.

I am surprised the conservatives are staying out of the race, except for Haley. Rand Paul, Romney, Cheney are not interested.

Indeed - someone has to run the country. And if nothing else, Trump proved that the job of a 'politician' isn't something that anyone can just walk into and succeed. It appears that some folks believe that you don't need to know the rules of governance in order to govern.

He doesn't even bother to say what he is campaigning on, except that everything is just horrible, and that he would fix everything real fast.

They are called loyalists and apologists for a reason. They are loyal to the person, and the policies don't matter so much, as is evidenced by them flip-flopping on abortion as soon as Trump flip-flopped.

He was there to run for president; I suppose he was hoping to appeal to everyman because he isn't a narcissistic pri*k, or a doddering senile old fool.

Not just his "true believers." There are lot of folks that remember the times when he was President. Cheap gas, low inflation, 3% home loans, increased pay at work. Many of them will vote for Trump just to get some of that back.

That would be stupid since he didn't do any of that. He inherited that economy from his predecessor and basically sat on it.

Regarding interest rates in particular, it would be exceptionally ignorant of voters to imagine that Trump had any control over that. The current Fed chair, the one who is actually responsible for raising rates to try and tame the inflation that Trump helped create in the first place with his massive deficit spending and Covid stimulus, is Trump's pick and the one responsible for that.

He took steps to make us energy independent, he opened credit markets that lowered interest rates to their lowest rate in modern history, and offered increased employment to more diverse groups than the Obama administration ever thought about. Your revisionist history is noted.

It's dysfunction and corrupt as it is, has been for decades. Pick the people that will obstruct and halt as much as possible. It's only obstruction of corruption and dysfunction so it's good.

The elite scum need a little **** you from the people.

Yeah he got the **** out of the way. Meddling doesn't work and it's only done to increase the power and scope of a bloated broken idiot machine that is our government.

The door knob in office right now burnt 100 billion in Ukraine. He should be tried for high treason wasting our money on some corrupt foreign government. This crap needs to be obstructed.
Didn't burn 100 billion in idontgiveafuckistan so he's already 100 billion better
Yeah I think he should have started treason trials of the crack pots that shut down their states. These governors are the biggest mass murderers in our modern era. If they haven't been there dumbest people to ever hold office there wouldn't have been a need to print off money to pay for their corruption.

Government is the problem not the solution. Picking someone who obstructs is the best thing right now. I hope Trump gets reelected and breaks all ot this swine's toys.
