    What in God's name is going on with Australia's defense forces. Their navy is, according to a government report, "unfit for purpose." And now this sex scandal and culture of covering up misconduct at their service academy.

    The topic here is that you're flinging mud. No one has ever said that Australia doesn't have problems. Still better than the US.

    Better than the US? A navy deemed unfit for purpose. And now a widespread sex and behavior scandal, for which no one has been disciplined at your service academy.

    I'd say Australia's defense forces need severe improvement before you can even consider comparing them to the US military deemed the best in the world.

    But I compared the US military to the Australian defense forces.

    Yes, in all defense forces it would appear (but yes i understand you are cherry picking).

    We don't need a navy, we just call on you yanks. You got plenty of young men and women to use as cannon fodder.

    It isn't the Navy thats non-functional, it was just the amphibious capability. They've spent too much time ferrying assylum seekers around the place, but of course that stopped under the Liberals and only restarted under Ruddud/Juliar.

    They're having problems with their aging submarines, their leadership is rife with disciplinary problems and scandals and the assesment which they wanted describes the RAN as "unfit for purpose."

    Man it must be getting hot in the basement!!

    The US officer my nephew worked under in Afghanistan wanted him back.

    Was surprised at the work quality and ethic, something lacking in his own men.

    (PS that's a bit unfair, this is actual real life stuff, not sticky basement fantasies ;) )

    The RAN is completely unable to defend Australia from the USN... unfit for purpose?

    They could only compare it to their own requirements LOL, which they can change. This report is to deflect public reaction to the arrival of a new ship and to make the ALP look proactive, especially since in a few years we are getting a big amphibious carrier as well. They do not want to look like they are spending too much on the military without good reason... so typical ALP they over-reach and claim the whole Navy is broken. Its typical corrupt style misdirection.

    In regards to the subs, sure they have operational requirements, but these would not be made public and probably shared with the USN!?

    What you mean aging submarines? Having such a small fleet means its easy to slip into maintenance related unavailabilities. The only reason the RAN could be called unfit for purpose is because the amphibious capability fell on its butt.

    I couldnt believe when the ALP minister during the cyclone said in a TV interview that we'd send the Navy amphibious ships up to help - we didnt have any to send. Even I knew that and I'm not in the military. Its amazing how clueless the ALP looks when you actually have clue yourself.
