REFERENCE LINK, 2022 EDITION (new standing disclaimer as of 2022, written December 31,2021, online libraries, screenshot overflow links) / Also: OLDER EXCEL TRACKING DATA (2020-2021)

COVID-19 WEEKLY concise analysis: 2022-12-019 (Monday) through 2022-12-025 (Sunday)
(UTC +0, Greenwich = 20:00 UTC -4, East Coast of the USA)
CALENDAR WEEK 51, LAST COMPLETE WEEK WITHIN 2022 & ALSO CHRISTMAS DAY!
    Worldwide and 'dreadnaught' nations from
    30,000,000 COVID-19 cases upwards

THE SIG-FILE EXCEL TRACKING ENCOMPASSES WORLDWIDE FIGURES + 87 NATIONS
Of the 87 tracked nations, 5 dreadnaught nations are published here as screenshots on a weekly basis.
"Dreadnaught" nation is currently defined as 30,000,000 total C19 cases and above.
    +cases / +deaths refers to +WEEKLY cases and +WEEKLY deaths, naturally.

    WORLDWIDE:

The 51st full week of 2022, also the last full week in 2022, showed a relative leveling in both +cases and +deaths, likely due to the Christmas holidays, which over the last 3 years has led to a paperwork slowdown that was then caught-up upon in the days following. Wait and see.. :

Japan remained over +1,000,000 cases in one week, far surpassing all other nations. Just a little humor: there is the not too remote possibility that we may very well land at 666 million total Covid-19 cases at the end of this year....

    THE TOP-87 TABLES: CASES

    Here by total cases, descending:

The 87 nations I am tracking accounted for 97.71% of all worldwide cases and 96.58% of all deaths during the week being analysed, almost identical to the week before. This is how stable the tracking is.

    Here sorted by +cases / +avg cases:

The calendar week being analysed saw 1 country with both over +1,000,000 weekly cases and an average of over +100,000 +cases (Japan) and 10 countries had over +100,000 new cases and +10,000 avg cases, respectively and in both cases exactly as in the week before. 8 nations reported no new statistics at all, 1 more than the week before. However, 5 other nations averaged less than +20 per day, showing that the well has all but dried up.

Here the same 87-nation list, sorted by growth rate:

The worldwide growth-rate in +cases during the calendar week being analysed fell very slightly to 0.59% (it was +0.59% the week before), with said growth rate tracked the most closely by both Austria (rank 18 ).

    Here, by trend:

We ended the calendar week being analysed with 36 nations at a plateau (the week before it was 29). 23 nations are now surging forward (the week before it was 32), a considerable drop over the week before, leaving us with 29 nations that show their +cases receding (last week it was 29). Because of Christmas, any possible real surges will show up in the next week, most likely.

We now have 6 days (13 days) until the end of 2022 and exactly 1 week until the end of CW-52, almost all of which will be within 2022.

I did not expect the ice to break that fast, but Hongkong has given a UA to BioNtech's bivalent vaccine.
It is an act of desperation, because the R-factor is currently at 16.

So, the end of 2022 is upon us and I have made my decisions regarding this thread.

First, the scheduling for the next days:

Tomorrow, Sunday, 2023-01-001: USA 2022 over 2021 full analysis. This will be the last analysis of my homeland vis-a-vis Covid-19.
Monday, 2023-01-002, complete worldwide analyses (more than one), 2022 over 2021
Tuesday, 2023-01-003, the complete excel tables for all 87 nations that have been analysed over this year and were in the official tracking will all be published as screenshots

As of 2023 I will only be reporting on a quarterly basis:

    1.) Sunday, 2023-04-002, for EOQ1 2023 (2023-03-030) - 90 day time-period

2.) Sunday, 2023-07-002???, for EOQ2 and Half-year (2023-06-030) - 91/181 day time period - however,I may be vacationing during this time and so it may end up that the mid-year analysis will come out three weeks later, using the wayback machine to keep the data accurate.

    3.) Monday, 2023-10-002, for EOQ3 (2023-09-030) - 92 day time-period

    4.) Tuesday, 2024-01-002, for EOQ4 and EOY (2023-12-031) - 92/365 day time period

As events unfold in 2023, I will comment on them here, but the heavy statistics work that I did all through 2020, 2021 and 2022 will soon be over with. I simply do not have the time to keep up with this and do with the same zeal as in the past.

Although the statistics for today, 2022-12-031, are just starting to come in, some things are already pretty much set in stone, for instance, the tracking tree: out of 87 tracked nations, the interval between most all of them is so wide that the rankings are pretty much fix for this year, but I still wait to see what will happen with ranks 24-25 (Portugal / Greece) and ranks 68-69 (UAE/Ecuador).

The millions club table is also definitely set in stone, barring any unforseen huge rises in +case today by any particular nation, which I hold to be unlikely.

And then there is the issue of China, which suddenly relaxed its so-called zero-tolerance policy vis-a-vis C-19 and is not being inundated with cases but refusing to report them. In Italy, all incoming planes from China have been stopped at the gate and all passengers, Chinese and non-Chinese alike, have been tested. The result: more than 50% of all passengers on incoming flights from Communist China have tested positive, but it appears to be the Omikron-variant that we all know. There are similar reports over Chinese flights that have landed in Nepal, India, Bhutan and Pakistan. Reports from multiple sources are that at least half of Shanghai (population: 38 million) is now positive, and this just happened in the last 10 days. China has FOURTY mega-cities, so if Shanghai, Beijjing and Guanjong are taking massive hits, so are the rest. This is all backed up by the fact that cases (but not deaths) are on a precipitious rise in South Korea, Japan and Hong Kong.

On the other side, other countries are declaring an official end to the pandemic. In Germany, Covid-19 has been re-classified as an endemic.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once the end of 2023 has come and the last analyses are out, I will then ask the admin of this board to officially close this thread. Everything in due time.

Happy New Year to all PFers,

    Stat

USA COVID-19 statistical analysis EOY (End of Year), 2022-12-031
    (UTC +0, Greenwich = 20:00 ET)

    Ώ** 102,513,690 **Ώ
    THE USA DATA IS SEMI-FINAL
+46,810,569 cases over the YEAR before (➚), at EOY 2021 it was +35,250,846
+271,078 deaths over the YEAR before (), at EOY 2021 it was +492,690

    USA yearly calculated daily averages:

    STAT'S EXCEL-TABLE:
    2022-12-031 Covid-19 USA 001.png 2022-12-031 Covid-19 USA 002.png

Again, the disclaimer at the top of this posting is new, I recommend that you read it if you have not already.

In one year's time, the USA went from 55.7 to 102.5 million COVID-19 cases and from 847,000 to 1,118,000 COVID-19 deaths. Before you read farther, re-read that last sentence and reflect for a moment. Believe me, it's a good idea. Let that sad news sink in for a while. A year ago, I wrote this:

    And so it was.

What the averages mean: +128,248, +743 = 89.1 fresh C19 cases and 0.5 C19 deaths per minute in the USA. EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY DAY.

I could write a lot of technical, flowery stuff, but the long and short of this is that the Omikron wave really took the USA for a ride in the Winter/Spring of 2022.

COVID-19 in the USA, by all UNITS, Total cases (WorldOMeter):
    2022-12-031 Covid-19 USA 002 - total cases.png 2022-12-031 Covid-19 USA 003 - total cases.png

Since December 31st, 2022 was on a Saturday, meaning also that New Year's day - today - is a Sunday, explains why so many fields are empty. States have tended to report in less and less on the weekends.

COVID-19 in the USA, by all UNITS, total cases, deaths and tests:

For the last year I went an entirely different way when it came to monthly statistics for the USA. At the online excel document (see: sig-file), I created a multi-table, porting over the data from the last day of the month and also the month before and then adding some calculation functions that are not at the WorldOMeter site. Here the +cases, something you cannot see at WorldOMeter and in this case the calculations are for the yearly figures instead of the usual monthly figures:

    2022-12-031 Covid-19 USA Z - by total cases, deaths, tests 001.png 2022-12-031 Covid-19 USA Z - by total cases, deaths, tests 002.png

As of EOY 2022, 30 units (most all of them states) have jumped over the million-mark in total confirmed C-19 cases - one year ago, it was 19 such units. Worldwide, that number = currently 73 nations.

Also, as of EOY 2022, California is not very close to 100,000 deaths.

1.15 BILLION test performed is nothing to sneer at. That is huge number of tests, one must say.

COVID-19 in the USA, by all UNITS, YEARLY + cases, +deaths, +tests:

2022-12-031 Covid-19 USA Z - by plus and plus avg cases, deaths, tests 001.png 2022-12-031 Covid-19 USA Z - by plus and plus avg cases, deaths, tests 002.png

You can see the breakdown for yourself. Alone, California amassed +6.3 million new cases in 2022, that is more than the TOTAL cases for any individual nation on Earth as of rank 23 (Austria)

7 states in the USA amassed more than +10,000 new C-19 deaths in 2022, respectively.

COVID-19 in the USA, by all UNITS, YEARLY growth rate for cases and deaths:
    2022-12-031 Covid-19 USA Z - by growth rate - cases, deaths 001.png 2022-12-031 Covid-19 USA Z - by growth rate - cases, deaths 002.png

    FACIT:
with a massive breakout of cases in Communist China, who knows what will happen across the world in 2023. It is very likely that China already has 400,000,000 cases, just not on paper as that nation lies all the time. But with 102 Million cases, the USA has truly set a record for the history books.

O.k., you were pretty much on the ball!

    This is what I found:

BioNTech-Pfizer COVID vaccine sent to China for Germans

BERLIN (AP) — Germany has dispatched a batch of the BioNTech-Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to China, where it will be administered to Germans who live in the country.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s spokesman, Steffen ****streit, said the vaccines were sent on a flight that was due to land in China on Wednesday. He said that the Chinese government formally informed Berlin in a diplomatic note that German citizens can be inoculated with the vaccine, which otherwise isn’t cleared for use in China.

Some 20,000 Germans in China stand to benefit from the agreement, ****streit said, and “at the same time, we are working to make it possible for (other) foreigners, expatriates to benefit from such a step.”

In exchange for China’s agreement to allow the limited use of the German-developed BioNTech-Pfizer vaccine, Germany is allowing Chinese citizens in Germany to get the Chinese-made Sinovac vaccine, which hasn’t been approved in the European Union.

Scholz said when he visited Beijing in early November that China would make BioNTech-Pfizer shots available for expatriates and said that can “only be a first step,” indicating that he hoped the vaccine’s use could be expanded to the Chinese public.

China so far has approved only domestic vaccines, which use an older technology that has typically proven less effective at preventing the spread of the disease than the BioNTech-Pfizer or Moderna vaccines. (what does that mean??)

    So, China is cooperating!

Sooo, the excel tables (2 screenshots per table) are now done, but I am waiting until as late as possible this evening my time to lock down the statistics since a number of countries that did not report either on Saturday or Sunday are likely to do a data-dump late this evening at the last minute. This is surely going to mean correcting/updating the data for about 20 out of the 87 tracked nations, but it's worth it to me to get the very last possible data before etching it in stone. Likely I will screenshot and work the WorldOmeter data table between midnight and 1 AM my time (shortly before EOD UTC +0) and then go to bed and then write the many analyses tomorrow, 2023-01-003 instead of today. When I am tired and over statistic'd, then one tends to make mistakes and I would prefer to get it right.

Therefore, major analysis dump tomorrow instead of today.

But the tracking tree will come out tonight before I go to sleep.

    Thank you.

I am working overtime in my profession in the real world, so the answer is: more real world time, less time spent on a forum.

And thanks for stopping by ("the woods on a snowy evening"*)

Screenshot preface no. 1 to the 2022 EOY Worldwide analysis.

I've already published the tracking tree above.

Also, I thought it would be helpful to see all of the worldwide data that Worldometer provided for the last day of this year, here in terms of total cases, descending, in one fell-swoop. This is data that I then input into my own excel worktables to crunch specific statistics, of course:

WORLDWIDE COVID-19 statistical analysis for EOY (End of Year), Saturday, 2022-12-031
    (UTC +0, Greenwich = 20:00 ET)

    PART I

    WORLDWIDE:
    ΏΏΏΏΏΏ֍֍֍֍֍֍***** 665,010,305 *****֍֍֍֍֍֍ ΏΏΏΏΏΏ
    THE WORLDWIDE DATA IS FINAL

    +376,533,190 cases over the year 2021 (it was +204,676,874 2021 over 2020)
    +1,244,427 deaths over the year 2021 (it was +3,627,986 2021 over 2020)

    Fixed-statistics at EOY 2022:
    TOTAL C19 cases: 130 with 100,000+ (+114 over 2021), 73 with 1,000,000+ (+42 over 2021), 14 with 10,000,000+ (+6 over 2021).

There have now been 6,697,431 COVID-19 deaths worldwide
    Worldwide daily averages:
    +1,031,598 new C19 cases per day (was: +1,306,796 EOY 2021) /
+3,409 deaths per day (was: +6,270 at EOY 2021)
    ---------------------------------------------------------

The number of serious/critical (ICU) cases worldwide: 40,664 (EOY 2021: 89,834)
Combined, the top 87 nations have performed a total of 6,557,665 (6.6 BILLION) Covid-19 tests.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    STAT'S EXCEL-TABLE:
    2022-12-031 Covid-19 WORLDWIDE FINAL 001.png 2022-12-031 Covid-19 WORLDWIDE FINAL 002.png

In one year's time, our big, beautiful world went from almost 288.5 to 665.0 million COVID-19 cases and from almost 5.45 to 6.69 million COVID-19 deaths. Before you read farther, please re-read that last sentence and reflect for a moment. We added close to 377 MILLION cases in this last year.

The way the cases and deaths from Covid-19 started to slowly dry up during this year remind me alot of this scene from a Star Trek film:

    2022-12-031 Covid-19 WORLDWIDE 000 - rubrik worktable.png

    2022-12-031 Covid-19 WORLDWIDE 000 - history.png

    2022-12-031 Covid-19 WORLDWIDE 000 - millions table.png

The top 87 tracked nations within the worldwide figures:

At the end of 2021, I was tracking 65 nations, which grew to 87 during the course of 2022. Instead of publishing them here, I have published them (2 screenshots per nation, excepting DPRK) in alphabetical order at blogspot:

2022 EOY Worldwide analysis screenshots for all 87 officially tracked nations (2 screenshots per nation)

And also, adjunct to this analysis:

    USA EOY 2022 analysis,, posted 2023-01-001 23:51 UTC +1, #14414.
    EOY 2022, Tracking tree, posted 2023-01-003 00:09 UTC +1, #14420.
    Screenshot preface 1 to EOY 2022 analysis, posted 2023-01-003, 13:07 UTC +1, #14421.
    Screenshot preface 2 to EOY 2022 analysis, posted 2023-01-003, 13:12 UTC +1, #1442.

As time progressed, I decided that it was time to built a better excel table than that what worldometer provides. Earlier today, I provided all 7 screenshots covering the entire world, every nation. Using that data, I have more specific calculations for total cases, deaths and tests and then again for +cases, +deaths and +tests.

    So, here we go:

Top 87 nations, yearly total cases, deaths and tests deaths / yearly +cases, +deaths and + tests & growth rates (2022 over 2021):

    2022-12-031 Covid-19 WORLDWIDE TOP 87 - total cases, deaths, tests 001.png 2022-12-031 Covid-19 WORLDWIDE TOP 87 - total cases, deaths, tests 002.png

The two screenshots above are for total cases. The light blue demarcation lines are to separate the tens of millions, millions, hundreds of thousands or thousands. It's easier for the eyes to digest this stuff this way.

    And by +cases, +deaths and +tests:

2022-12-031 Covid-19 WORLDWIDE TOP 87 -plus and plus avg cases, deaths, tests 001.png 2022-12-031 Covid-19 WORLDWIDE TOP 87 -plus and plus avg cases, deaths, tests 002.png

It's not only +cases and the like, but rather, the daily average (spread over 365 days in the calendar year).

Check out the country you live in. The figures for EOY 2022 are eye-popping figures, to say the least.

    Here the growth rate:

2022-12-031 Covid-19 WORLDWIDE TOP 87 -by growth rate for cases, deaths, tests 001.png
    [IMG]

Here we see some phenomenal growth rates in all three rubriks, clearly indicating which part of the world suddenly surged forth in 2022. By cases, the top 9 are all countries from Asia and Oceana, by deaths it's the top 5 from the same area. In terms of tests, the picture is much more mixed.

The nations (2 per rubrik) highlighted in green came closest to the worldwide growth rate for that rubrik.

Top 87 nations, general rankings in cases, deaths and tests / change in rankings from EOY 2020 to EOY 2022:

This is something I published around the middle of January 2022 last time around, this time it is part of the main analysis.

Of course the numbers by total cases, descending go exactly from 1-87 because those are the 87 nations in my official tracking, by cases. However, by deaths and tests, there is no guarantee that those same 87 nations are also in the top 87, which is why, for example, Cyprus is 84 in total cases but 129 in total deaths and 65 in total tests.
This is also why you see some countries in black (bold) under the table with some rankings: for instance, China was rank 11 in tests but not in my official 87 nation tracking.

    And by ranking change:

With the ranking changes we can establish that the test category is the more consistent of the three.

In purple I highlighted the countries in all three rubriks that had a change of +20 (or considerably higher) or a change of -20 (or considerably lower). In all three rubriks there were some nations (highlighted in green) that were completely unchanged in the rankings when you compare EOY 2020 to EOY 2022:

Cases: USA, India, Italy, Indonesia, Bahrain
Deaths: USA, Brazil, India, Poland, Bangladesh, Portugal
Tests: USA, India, France, Peru, Ireland, New Zealand, Panama, Panama, Sri Lanka, DPRK.

Only two nations were completely unchanged in all three rubriks: the USA and India.

    One year ago, I wrote:

And it was so, in addition to the USA exceeding 100,000,000 total confirmed cases as well.

The analysis continues in part II.

WORLDWIDE COVID-19 statistical analysis for EOY (End of Year), Saturday, 2022-12-031
    (UTC +0, Greenwich = 20:00 ET)

    PART II

WORLDWIDE CONTINENTAL STATISTICS: TOTALS, +VALUES, GROWTH RATES
    First, from Worldometer:

    2022-12-031 Covid-19 Continental - AFRICA.png 2022-12-031 Covid-19 Continental - ASIA.png 2022-12-031 Covid-19 Continental - EUROPE.png 2022-12-031 Covid-19 Continental - NORTH AMERICA.png 2022-12-031 Covid-19 Continental - OCEANA.png 2022-12-031 Covid-19 Continental - SOUTH AMERICA.png

And now, the continental data distillled down into helpful tables:

    2022-12-031 Covid-19 CONTINENTAL 000 - by totals, descending.png

Here we can see that Europe lead the world in three of four rubriks, but with Asia ending the year with considerably more active cases, which is something you do not want to have if you are ending a wave.

    2022-12-031 Covid-19 CONTINENTAL 000 - by plus, plus daily avg.png

In the + rubriks, it's the same thing, with Europe leading in 3 of 4 rubriks, but with Asia leading in +actives, again, a category you don't want to have high numbers in.

    2022-12-031 Covid-19 CONTINENTAL 000 - by growth rate.png

However, in terms of growth rates, Oceana proved to have had the most phenomenal growth of all in 3 of 4 rubriks, upseating Europe, but once again, Asia lead in the active cases rubrik.

So, where does this lead us in the future? Honestly, I do not know.

Many nations in the world, after three long, dreary years of pandemic, are tired of Covid-19, but I am not sure that Covid-19 is done with us.

A number of nations are very obviously preparing to simply stop their statistics, but in Asia, most notably in Japan, South Korea and China, Covid-19 is on the for-march.

China ended it's null-tolerance policy and now its cities are being overrun with cases, but China is not reporting them. Typical Communists. Just like Fascists, Communists lie. A lot. I suspect that China now has at leat 500,000,000 total Covid-19 cases that we will never hear about but as I clearly wrote in the first postings on this thread, I can only calculate statistics based on what has been officially put to paper.

This now concludes 98% of my work on this thread. As I indicated HERE, I will only be posting analyses 4 times for 2023 and occasionally reporting on some millions club events or so, but other than that, it's time for me to do other things in life.

In retrospect, I am still very glad to have followed the numbers so long and wish you all a fine 2023! And thanks for staying faithful to this dreadnaught thread.
