It's truly staggering to watch a man like General Mark Milley, someone who has spent more than 40 years in service to the U.S. military, be reduced to a villain in the twisted reality show of Donald Trump’s America. Milley is not just some bureaucratic placeholder. He’s a man who has devoted his entire career to defending the Constitution, to protecting the ideals that this country stands for, even when those ideals have been under attack from within. And who are we comparing him to? Donald Trump, a man whose record of deception is so comprehensive, you'd need a flowchart just to keep track of all his lies.

The fact that Trump has convinced a sizable chunk of the American population that Milley --a man whose only 'crime' was putting country before a dictator wannabe -- is somehow a traitor is appalling. Trump’s attack on Milley is the latest chapter in his endless campaign of deflection and projection. He projects his own character flaws --disloyalty, self-interest, narcissism -- onto those who serve the country with integrity.

A word on General Mark Milley's so-called “treason”: it doesn’t exist. The accusation is not just wrong -- it’s an insult to anyone with even a cursory understanding of patriotism, duty, and, frankly, basic facts. Those who accuse Milley of 'treason', should be ashamed. My, how easy it is for these collective monday morning quarterbacks to trivialize a man's life time of patriotic service, all in the name of defending the indefensible, Donald Trump. So let’s be clear about what this is: a lie. A fabrication, spun by Donald Trump and his sycophantic chorus, designed to smear a man who dared to put country over one man’s delusional ego trip.

Milley has spent over 40 years in uniform, defending the U.S. Constitution. You think a man with that record suddenly turned traitor because he didn’t feel like playing along with Trump’s coup fantasies? Milley’s actions -- whether it was his reassurances to China or his oversight of military decisions in the waning days of the Trump administration -- were not the actions of a rogue general but of a man standing in the breach, preventing the kind of reckless behavior that Trump was clearly itching to unleash.

And here’s the truth Trump and his followers don’t want to hear: Milley was doing his job. Yes, his job. Milley had a duty to ensure that the military was not being used as Trump’s personal toy during a time when Trump had incited an insurrection and was grasping at any straw to stay in power. Milley didn’t act in secret. He didn’t undermine legitimate orders. He didn’t usurp authority. What he did was safeguard the country from a president who had lost all grip on reality. And for that, he’s called a traitor? Give me a break.

But this is how it works in Trump’s twisted universe. Loyalty isn’t to the country. It’s not to the Constitution. It’s not to the people of the United States. No, loyalty is only to him. Milley had the audacity to say, "No, Mr. President, you are not a king." And that -- that -- is his so-called “treason.”

Trump’s accusation that Milley is a traitor is just another page out of his propaganda playbook. It’s what demagogues do when they’re cornered -- they scapegoat. And Milley is the latest target of this vile, slanderous tactic. Trump’s followers eat it up because it fits their narrative: the deep state, the swamp, the military-industrial complex -- whatever you want to call it -- working against their hero. But here’s the hard truth they refuse to accept: Milley wasn’t working against America -- he was saving it. From Trump.

So, let’s put this “treason” nonsense to bed once and for all. There is no treason. There is no conspiracy. There is only a man who did his duty and upheld the Constitution in the face of unprecedented danger from within. Milley’s integrity shines through the lies, and Trump’s baseless accusations only highlight the depths to which he and his followers will sink to defend the indefensible.

Mark Milley is no traitor. But Donald Trump? Well, let’s just say history won’t be so kind to him.

And yet, people buy into it. How? How do people who claim to love America fall for the delusions of a man who quite literally tried to subvert democracy? The answer, I believe, is as unsettling as it is simple: they are mesmerized. Trump, a man who was handed his fortune, his fame, and now, tragically, his political influence, has turned deception into an art form. He is a master of deception, persuasion to the point of mesmerization of a segment of the population who lack the sophistication to be keen on the archetypical demagogue and the danger they represent. They are utterly unaware of how history has given us men like Trump, the Mussolini's, etc. He tells people what they want to hear. And what they want to hear is that their grievances are righteous, their prejudices are valid, and their enemies are traitors.

The word that might describe Trump with a modicum of accuracy, is 'insidious', a word which means 'alluring' but so harmful in the end when it becomes too late to extricate oneself from the trap of his manipulation or least extremely difficult, because at that juncture, one would have to own up to the fact they've bee conned, and admit, nay, swallow a huge, and very bitter, pill, aka, 'the truth'. And that takes someone with big cajones (or the female equivalent) to do that. .

But this is where it becomes truly perverse. Trump has spent his life promoting a fiction where he is always the hero and everyone who opposes him is an enemy of the state. He’s not just attacking Milley because the general might have stood up to him in a private meeting. Trump is attacking Milley because Milley represents the one thing Trump can never comprehend: honor. Milley stood by his oath to the Constitution when Trump was ready to shred it. And for that, Trump will never forgive him.

So now, Trump, with his penchant for demagoguery, poisons the minds of his followers, telling them Milley is a traitor. And disturbingly, a large number of them believe it. Not because they’ve seen any evidence or because they’ve weighed the facts -- but because they’ve chosen to believe Trump over a man who has spent his life in service to the country.

It’s a sad commentary on where we are as a nation when people can look at a man like General Milley, with his record of service and sacrifice, and say, 'Yes, Trump is right; this man is a traitor.' Milley didn’t betray America -- he protected it. And the fact that Trump, with his trail of lies and broken promises, can convince so many people otherwise, speaks to the dangerous hold this sex abusing, fraudster, criminal conman still has on a disturbingly large portion of the population.

What does it say about us when we are willing to abandon the very people who have fought to protect us, all in favor of a man whose loyalty is only to himself? That, my friends, is the real betrayal of America. And Trump’s followers have allowed themselves to be willing accomplices.

Milley is, indeed, correct, that Trump is 'fascist to the core'.

I urge you who are considering voting for Trump, don't do it.

Don't do it if you love your country, love Democracy, and the American way of life. A vote for Trump is a vote for decline into chaos, and though it probably won't happen, or at least, not overnight, but electing Trump represents the gradual descent into authoritarianism. I mean, listen to what he's been saying, pay close attention to the clues, not the lies. The fawning over dictators, the freudian slips that he would accept being 'permanent', the accolades of Xi achieving permanent status, his desire to be 'dictator' for 'only the first day' (yeah, right, and I've got a bridge to the third Reich to sell you) it's clear who he is. HE TELLS US, so LISTEN! . What final shape will result, no one knows, but the the wise choice is not to choose him. Vote for another conservative, but not Trump, anythone would be better than Trump (excluding Vance, of course).

Mark Milley, the US Army general who Donald Trump appointed as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, now says the current Republican presidential nominee is a “fascist to the core” and says no person has ever posed more of a danger to the United States than the man who served as the 45th President of the United States.

Milley, a decorated military officer who became a target for right-wing scorn after it became known that he expressed concerns over Trump’s mental stability in the wake of his 2020 election loss to Joe Biden, is described by journalist Bob Woodward in his new book, War, as incredibly alarmed at the prospect of a second Trump term in the White House. The Independent obtained a copy ahead of the book’s October 15 release date.

In the wake of the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol by a riotous mob of the then-president’s supporters, Woodward writes that Milley insisted on securing a meeting with the then-newly-minted attorney general, Merrick Garland, to urge him to investigate domestic violent extremism and far-right militia movements.

According to Woodward, a senior Department of Justice lawyer said at the time that Milley’s sit-down with Garland might have been the first-ever meeting between a chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the country’s top civilian law enforcement official. He writes that the general asked for the meeting because he was “deeply convinced” that Trump remained “a danger to the country” even though he had been forced from office after Biden’s election win.

In another galaxy, far, far, away, Repubs used to care about such things as honor, dignity, patriotism, and self sacrifice. These days they'll come up with a dozen excuses why they should ignore what Milley (and dozens of others who saw trump up close) has warned about.

Can the left explain we never saw any of this fascism during the Trump years only to see it during Biden's years along with promises of seeing a lot more of it during the Harris years?

The fake elector plot, for one. Your "Yeah, but he failed, so his fascist attempt was okay" argument is sad.

A sitting president organizing an attack on the government he swore to uphold and defend is much more than “civil disobedience”.

    Would you care to elaborate?

    Why?

Because I see nothing from Biden/Harris, that remotely equals 'fascism'.

    I suppose you are referring to these accusations, given typical of the right, which are policies, as 'fascist', but, no, not really;

COVID-19 mandates, use of executive orders, expanding the scope of government programs, Disinformation Governance Board, allegations of censorship or collusion with Big Tech.
Nothing in the above list is remotely 'fascist', ( and the last one, when scrutinized, will show it's not really fascist, but a concern by the prez to prevent the dangerous spread of disinformation, noting there are no doubt areas that are 'borderline', but it's not concrete, not by a long shot) it's nothing more than any president in history has or would have done, and the bottom line is that, it seems that Republicans consider anything done by Biden (or any Dem) that they don't like as 'fascist'. Well, I got bad news for you republicans, not getting your way doesn't equal fascism.

But I saw a lot of actions, words, etc., from Trump that could easily be associated with fascistic, as I explained in the OP.

    To wit (source CoPilot)

    1. Attack on the Media: Trump repeatedly labeled the press as the "enemy of the people," undermining trust in journalism and critical reporting. Fascists, do, indeed, call the press who criticize them as 'the enemy of the people'. Nixon just said, and only in private, that the press was 'the enemy' , aka, HIS enemy, not that of 'the people'. So, I wouldn't call that 'fascist', just a whine.
    2. Refusal to Accept Election Results: Trump's refusal to accept the outcome of the 2020 election and his attempts to overturn the results—culminating in the January 6 Capitol insurrection—reflect authoritarian contempt for democratic processes. Clearly is fascistic.
    3. Cultivation of a Personalist Leadership Style: Trump often spoke of himself as the singular figure capable of "saving" America, a characteristic of fascist leaders who present themselves as the nation's only savior. A common ploy by fascists.
    4. Calls for Violence: During his rallies and public statements, Trump made multiple allusions to violence, such as telling the Proud Boys to "stand back and stand by" and encouraging his supporters to "fight like hell" on January 6. Fascists love to rough up their detractors, physically,
    5. Demonization of Immigrants: Trump's rhetoric often painted immigrants, particularly from Latin America, as "criminals" and "rapists," using nationalist, exclusionary language that draws from xenophobic fascist ideologies.
    6. Undermining Rule of Law: Trump's dismissal of checks and balances, particularly his firing of officials investigating his administration (e.g., FBI Director James Comey), and interference in judicial matters, show contempt for institutional norms, a key feature of fascist regimes. Nixon did try this, to get underlings to fire Cox, who was investigating him, very fascistic.
    7. Militarization of Law Enforcement: Trump's response to the George Floyd protests, including the use of military forces and tear gas on peaceful protestors in Washington, D.C., was seen as an authoritarian response to civil unrest.
    8. Embrace of Nationalism: Trump's "America First" slogan and policies focused on an aggressive nationalism that prioritized American supremacy, often at the expense of international cooperation and multilateralism.
    9. Praising Dictators: Throughout his presidency, Trump expressed admiration for autocrats like Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong-un, and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, signaling a preference for authoritarian strongmen over democratic leaders.
    10. Voter Suppression Efforts: Trump's attempts to delegitimize mail-in voting and other efforts to make voting more accessible reflect fascistic tendencies to suppress opposition through controlling the electoral process.
    11. Use of State Resources for Political Gain: Trump's use of the White House for the Republican National Convention and other campaign-related events blurred the lines between the state and personal political power, often a feature of authoritarian regimes.
    12. Nativism and Ethno-Nationalism: His policies such as the Muslim Ban, along with his rhetoric, emphasized racial and religious exclusion, a hallmark of fascist ideologies that promote ethnic purity.
Sources provided on request (or copy and pasted into CoPilot as 'verify; (list)' and it will give you a couple of dozen links so sources substantiating each claim.

These deeds/acts are far more characteristic of the fascist's playbook. We could also substitute 'fascist' for 'demagogue', they are practically interchangeable.

TRaitor tRump. If he hadn't called his followers to the Capitol and held a four hour rally of hate and marching and fighting the attack would have NEVER happened.

Yeah, I know there were 4 seconds of "peacefully" in that 4 hours of hate. :wtf:
