Washington (CNN)Former President Donald Trump appealed to the Supreme Court on Thursday to block the release of documents from his White House to the House committee investigating the January 6 riot at the Capitol, escalating his effort to keep about 700 pages of records secret.

In filings submitted to the Supreme Court on Thursday, Trump asked the justices to take up a full review of the case and he requested that while they consider his position, they put a hold on the lower court decision permitting the disclosure of his records while they consider taking up the case.

"The limited interest the Committee may have in immediately obtaining the requested records pales in comparison to President Trump's interest in securing judicial review before he suffers irreparable harm," Trump's lawyers wrote in the court filings.

Heh. As is typical for him, Trump is fighting much harder to keep his dirty little secrets secret than he is to, say, challenge the legality of the 2020 election despite all of his baseless claims.

Looking at the argument his liars-- err, lawyers are making here, this is doomed to total failure, though. The argument revolves around The Donald, not around the presidency or even Congress's powers. It's plainly just about protecting the precious narcissistic crook from having his past conduct exposed to anyone with the authority to do anything about it, including make it known to the public.

 

In the end nothing of substance will be discovered. This is just a run out the clock ploy designed to limit the amount of time leftists have to make-up sensationalist headlines. You watch, they'll find a call sheet or an inconsequential email and that is, but it will be enough for them to manufacture a grand 'coup' just as they did with Russia Russia Russia. You seem to forget that the committee is not made up of "leftists."

The records being sought will likely answer a lot of longstanding questions about what was going on in the West Wing while the rioters overran the police and pillaged the Capitol for hours and the insurrectionists hunted for lawmakers to do terrible things to -- all, arguably, at Trump's behest -- and Trump did nothing more than tweet or otherwise publicly state more support than condemnation for what they were doing.

 

I think with the NY AG and others not allowing his status to stop them and with public opinion likely to be very unkind to him once the Committee gets what it is seeking and begins with public hearings and such, Trump absolutely will be held to account.

Everything channeled through White House communications is logged electronically, and stored/audited outside of White House purview, and recorded by a staffer who most often is sitting in on the call. Its just unreasonable to think some smoking gun is going to be found just because Congress is looking. Our NSA, CIA, FBI, and DHS have been spying on this President since before he even was President, they have completely proven on numerous occasions that they will act against him whenever possible. If there was something damning out there it would have already come to light.

I actually hope Dumbocrats are successful in removing Trump executive privilege. They won't find anything but that doesn't matter. What does matter (if successful) will set yet another precedent that will bite them in the ass yet again, but are just too dumb to even have the foresight to know.
