Trump campaign asks for cut of candidates’ fundraising when they use his name and likeness

Former President Donald Trump’s campaign has found a new way to press for badly needed cash.

In a letter received by Republican digital vendors this week, the Trump campaign is asking for down-ballot candidates who use his name, image and likeness in fundraising appeals to give at least 5 percent of the proceeds to the campaign.

“Beginning tomorrow, we ask that all candidates and committees who choose to use President Trump’s name, image, and likeness split a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC. This includes but is not limited to sending to the house file, prospecting vendors, and advertising,” Trump co-campaign managers Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita wrote in the letter, which is dated April 15.

They add: “Any split that is higher than 5% will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump’s campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”

Charging Trump a 5% royalty for the use of his name in candidate ads is the most mercantile expression of politics possible.

i think GOP candidate should pay more then 5%. i think the most appropriate number is 95%.

Let them. Seriously, the more that the RNC demands from the down ballot candidates, the less they have for their campaigns, making them easier to beat. The result could well be that the Dems win sizeable majorities in both House and Senate, a result I'd be happy about.

 

Try using an actor, artist, song or anyone famous digital property without permission to gain money or popularity..

Odd how people don't know these things, then again they seem to think thier entitled to free stuff..

 

Try using any song, image or representation of others in something you publish to benefit your own pursuit, and see what happens.
And I say Trump is in politics for the public good. It damn sure hasn't benefitted him to enter what amounts to a cesspool and try clean it up.
Of course, the gators who profit from being part of it are using every trick they can to blame him for the mess they have made.....
And a certain number of people who should be adults lick their boots.

Why would any citizen want that mass of corruption to continue? THEY damn sure aren't benefitting from it either.
A person has to be short a few bricks not to know that.

Nice try, but that won't apply to other politicians relevant to the election. Otherwise, no campaign material would be able to reference the name or image of opposing candidates, let alone those of (presumed) allies. It's the epitome of fair use.

Also, if it was an image rights issue, Trump wouldn't be asking for the money and wouldn't be able to claim a fixed percentage of all their fundraising, regardless of the scale or nature of the use of his image.

I just buy the idea that America can again become a great country, if we get rid of the fools in power at the moment that are choking her to death.

Economic growth is better today than under Trump.

Inflation is under control.

Wages are rising faster than inflation.

 

Got anything to back up this claim? I’ve never heard of down ballot candidates being asked to kick up to the pres nominee.
