Former President Donald Trump, turning a deaf ear to establishment calls to hold off and Democrat efforts to stop him, officially declared his 2024 presidential campaign Tuesday night.

"In order to make America great and glorious again, I am tonight announcing my candidacy for president of the United States," Trump told his crowd at Mar-a-Lago, in Palm Beach, Florida, at 9:22 p.m. ET. The address, heavily touted for days, aired live on Newsmax.

"This will not be my campaign. This will be our campaign all together, because the only force strong enough to defeat the massive corruption we are up against is you the American people. It's true. The American people, the greatest people on Earth. We love them all. And we love both sides. We're going to bring people together. We're going to unify. ..."

"Ladies and gentlemen, distinguished guests and my fellow citizens, America's comeback starts right now," Trump's speech began, He referenced the struggles of President Joe Biden's America under Democrat rule, calling America a great nation "in decline."

"We are here tonight to declare that it does not have to be this way – does not have to be this way," Trump continued. "Two years ago, we were a great nation and soon we will be a great nation again. The decline of America is being forced upon us by Biden and the radical left lunatics running our government right into the ground. This decline is not a fate we must accept when given the choice."

Trump is exactly right. The content and content of what he said is exactly right. He was totally on message in his announcement this evening.

Republicans were so close to cleaning house politically. They have completely blown it. The red wave fizzled, and now there is gong to either be civil war in the Republican Party, or they hand the election to the dems on a silver platter. I can’t believe how badly they have shot themselves in the foot throughout the last few months.

The dems have an incompetent person as president, and the republicans have someone so over the top divisive that he will never win. This next presidential election is going to be a joke. Same old faces, no new ideas, and complete division across the country.

Exactly right. Trump is trying to blow up the country for not letting him have his way two years ago. The Republicans better respond with a very firm no, or the country will be completely handed to democrats.

Ivanka has already announced she’s out.

Why anyone would want an 80+ year old crazy man in the white house is incomprehensible to me.

I could not have expressed my own opinion about Trump deciding to run any better than you have, especially in the overall surrounding circumstances that you have described so eloquently. All things considered, the next two years are going to be like having some sadistic creep pulling your guts out through your navel with needle-nosed pliers, two inches every day....

What a fugging disaster this whole damned 21st-century has been for us in the United States so far, and the future looks anything but 'bright'.... :dead:

Nah, that’ll come if he is indicted, and likely parroted by you.

You only have yourselves to blame for letting trump become your nominee.
It’s time for repubs to put their country ahead of their fear of maga fanatics.
It’s truly embarrassing that Americans are still falling for that lying sack of bullshit.

Your side had a great chance to dump him after 1/6. Your side could have gotten rid of him in two impeachments. But, no, your side rallied behind him and blamed the Dems. Now, Trump is going to pay you back by attempting to tear your party (and the country) apart. As predicted by people who were actually a good judge of his character, i.e. the ones who voted against him. Now, you have to lie in the bed you made and accept the consequences.

This. Not the best President or the best economy and the red wave still fizzled. Worst case is that Trump does not get the nomination and runs independent, will split republican vote like the tea party did when they were around.

Seems like both parties created this mess to me, and it seems very intentional.

If it comes down to him or whoever the Democrats vote for I'll vote for him again.

But I really hope we can come up with something different than Trump. I vote for DeSantis three times over Trump.

I think you're jumping the gun a bit, Josh. Republican voters have yet to weigh in on this and if DeSantis runs a lot of Republicans are going to rally behind him. Trump's sniping at DeSantis before the election and his decision to announce before the runoff in Georgia will not be forgotten, especially if Walker loses. The plain fact of the matter is that Trump can't unite the party because he's not a team player himself.

I agree with you on both parts and I think your governor has proven that he's a much better leader and politician than Trump. I think it was Reagan's campaign manager Ed Rollins who said that politics is a game of addition, not subtraction. DeSantis gets that and the results in Florida last week prove it beyond a doubt. Trump, on the other hand, not so much.

Well the guy you voted for in rallied behind told us that he was going to cure cancer.... Actually both of them did.

Are you going to condemn one or just the other or both?

Still want to see how DeSantis does nationally. Abbot did well in Texas, DeSantis did well in Florida; neither should come as a shock. We will see.

I don't think Trump is the best candidate for the GOP in 2024.

I also think a lot can and will change in 2 years.
