Yesterday, Donald Trump, in one of his pseudo intellectual flights of fancy, endorsed the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979.

The Russians asserted their legitimacy with something called the Brezhnev Doctrine, which held that the Russians had the right to take military action to subjegate any country that appeared to drift from its sphere of influence.

Putin is clearly an adherent to this doctrine. The invastion of Crimea and the Russian backed insurgency in Ukraine and the way the Russians have moved agressively to prop up its client state in Syria underline that fact.

Now, it appears to be endorsed by the Chief Executive of the United States!

    One has to wonder why.

One has to wonder why Trump even mentioned it.

    It makes no sense.

Is it yet another demonstration of Trump's pitiful ignorance of world affairs and his own role as a world leader.
