    FULL TITLE:

Trump Melts Down, Uses Old Poll in Desperate Attempt to Claim His Handling of Coronavirus Is Not as Bad as Many Think

In a stunning misuse of a poll President Trump tweeted that 77% of “U.S. adults have confidence in their government’s ability to handle the Coronavirus…”
There’s no online article at the New York Post that mentions the data Trump cited, but there is a Gallup poll taken weeks ago that does.

The problem is the Gallup poll was performed February 3-16, before the markets went into a week-long deep dive dropping about 3500 points, and before Trump delivered not one but two press conferences widely seen as disastrous.

    Wow.:smh:

Trump caught LYING by claiming the poll was in "Today's NY Post".

When in fact the poll was conducted WEEKS AGO, before the Market Tanking.:roflol:

Trump seems to be really melting down and pushing FAKE Narratives (in a desperate attempt to defend himself).

    Thoughts?

Is there a newer poll you simply forgot to mention that would dispute the poll Trump used?

    No.

It has been well-established (and documented) that the poll was from weeks ago (and taken long before the Market Tank, etc.)

If there is no newer poll then your point is ridiculous because you imply the poll he used is inaccurate without providing evidence to the contrary...

I have not seen where Trump has "mishandled" it. Could you stop flinging poop long enough to explain?

Yea I largely agree. A two week old poll isnt that absurd, nor is it a sign of desperation in the absence of evidence that there is a newer poll from the same company asking the same question.

I guess that depends on whether you are only willing to criticize trump or whether actions by the CDC/other health officials count as well.

But if you want to just talk about trump himself: Contradicting his health experts immediately after they spoke, lying about the virus being under control, blaming Democrats for the market decline, accusing Democrats of politicizing the virus and then immediately politicizing the virus, using the word hoax while discussing the virus, appointing a guy whose main health crisis claim to fame was exacerbating an HIV outbreak, and calling the first person to die a "wonderful woman" all come to mind off the top of my head.

And that's before we start talking about the bungled testing kits, the narrow testing protocols, the release of a patient that tested positive, the whistleblower complaint about putting healthcare people in a spot with insufficient training and equipment, and the subsequent link to a potential outbreak nearby...but that's not his "fault."

    Ok.

Let us look at what he actually DID:

    1) He claimed in the tweet that he saw the poll in "today's NY Post".

There’s no online article at the New York Post that mentions the data Trump cited.

    2) The poll was cited in the aftermath of the first death and the stock market tanking, and was trotted out (as if it was taken recently).

Trump tried to pass off the poll as taking place after all of the negative effects.

    3) The poll that he cited was taken weeks of earlier BEFORE the negative effects.

Here is an example of what Trump Did:

Assume Twitter had existed in 2001.

Let's say that a poll had been done in Late-August 2001 asking people what they thought about the Twin Towers and 77% of the people said, "That Area is the best part of NYC".

Then, after 9/11, when the aftermath of the attack has devastated several blocks...

...Somebody goes on Twitter and says "Things aren't that bad, 77% of people polled said 'That Area is the Best Part of NYC'..."

And then, when somebody calls them out on using an old poll they say "prove me wrong, have you seen a poll taken since then?"

Obviously, Trump"s Supporters will do (or say) anything to defend him.

But, his IMBECILIC attempt to cite an old poll and then claim that he saw it in "today's NY Post" was a Disgrace.

    ^Now THAT is "Ridiculous".:smh:
