We'll see if Trump gets away with imposing penalties on the EU. My guess is he won't even try to sanction EU businesses.

Threats are negotiation. Surprised you missed that.

Threats, overt and implied, are part of negotations.

Canada told our negotiators they will retaliate if we put tariffs or other trade barriers on their goods in violation of NAFTA or the WTO. Would they? Yes.

There's a lot more to fixing health care than getting rid of a medical device tax.
There's nothing special about the last 18 months.

    Or this...

Until we make some serious economic changes, the economy won't get that much better. What to do? Improve job training (not liberal arts education), build the infrastructure that we need to improve economic efficiency, increase business investment, increase R&D, and so on, both public snd private in each area. We need to get away from investments in "dead assets" like residential housing and motor vehicles.

When we move hard in these areas, we'll have better growth.

No, I answered it, though I don't find it particularly important to our conversation here.

Simply speaking English doesn't mean that one has been assimilated. The Scots-Irish failed to assimilate into any of the cultures already present in the British colonies, instead forming a new culture that is now the core of Red America, disinct from the American North and in many ways from Westerners in general.

It's an example of how people coming to America have assimilated. Geez, how many American immigrant groups have intermarried? Now, we have a lot of race mixing, too.
What makes you think Red America and Blue America are all that different? In my decades of teaching, I think people have actually become more alike.

Over the centuries, Europeans have done a lot of ethnic cleansing, especially after wars. Our national groups intermarried and moved around the country.

    True.

    Absolutely. They are.

Iran was a functioning Democratic nation under Mohammad Mossadeq until 1953 when the American CIA destroyed it with "Operation TP Ajax" and placed the Shah as Dictator and Tyrant as the American puppet over the country. EVERY problem you see today in Iran is the direct consequence of that incident. It was all about oil. It is always about oil. It was then, and it is now. The US wants to get its hands on Iran's oil.

That doesn't amount to cultural assimilation.

Most immigrants do assimilate, but they assimilate into one of a handful of distinct cultures.

What I'm saying is that there is no American culture to assimilate to, but a number of them.

Really? Don't you understand that Europe is made up of a multitude of ethnic entities that occasionally have jostled for the adjustment of political boundaries whereas the US is a single nation where the indigenous population has been subdued and eliminated? What a very odd way to debate. I'd say that your field of play is filled with potholes. If you want to make any comparisons between Europe and the US you will need to compare diverse European cultures with the North American indigenous Indian populations. How can you talk of "ethnic cleansing" in Europe and ignore the slaughter of the American Indians over the whole of the North American continent? The vast majority of European entities are allotted their own self-determination based upon ethnic-cultural lines ... where is the Indian leader of your country?

People today are tribal as well. Why you think there are Thüringer wnd Sachsen? The various german subtribes. When faced by danger they united and saw their german heritage. For example when we crushed rome.

A what? Thuringia had to suffer a lot in history. They are free now - but some lost the way during generations. It's impossible to be now today the freedom fighter against the Prussian empire, the Nazi tyranny and the Commie dictatorship if the own parents, grandparents, great grandparents and so on had to arrange themselves somehow with all this imperial idiots. A problem in dictatorship is for example that they use children as spies. So parents tell children not what's true - that's dangerous for everyone. They tell them what they think about, how their children are able to survive in the best of all possible ways. The children have later to find on their own the way out of this misery. To trust in god could help a lot in such situations - but in the last 150 years it was not easy - nearly impossible - to stay for Thuringians in the real Thuringian traditions. Nevertheless the most Thuringians are very positive people. And who is able to hear with his heart will find the way.

When the Romans came here to us over the mountains - "Romans", very interesting people - they found an extremely good weapon industry. Our swords were the best in the known universe - they are still the best. So they ordered some. I'm not sure how many it were in the end. Our Earth is ankle-deep red from the rust of the ancient metal manufacturers. The Romans settled down and we sold them weapons and blond hairs and such things. As far as I remember here was never anyone in war with the Romans. We are a mix of Celts, Germanics and Romans on our own. And now comes your real problem. You are not purebred: You are an Aryan. An Aryan far far far from home. Perhaps you should wear a swastika on your breast and ask in Israel where the way to Aryania is?

So the distance is 2018-1953 = 65 years. A good age for dictators to retire. And I could understand when the Iran will never allow any citizen of the USA to enter their territory and forbid the use of Dollars and the use of the English language in their country. But this helps on the other side no one. We need a realistic perspective not only for the Iran now. We need also a realistic perspective for international politics without the USA.

What dictator are you talking about?
You think those things are true? They are not true.
Iran has tried to be friends with the US many, many, many times but the US has refused. Iran has tried to help the US many, many, many times but the US has refused. Any perpetual animosity is from the US. Iran is only responding to the day by day events as they happen.
    Absolutely.

Neither you nor Anobsitar were born during the Nazi/Holocaust period of history. What makes you think it has anything to do what Israel is doing to the Palestinians .... other than similarities between the Nazi government and the Israeli one?

The immigration from Europe and establishment of Israel are related to the Nazi persecution, the wars are related to the establishment of Israel - and nonsense about "Nazi Israel" is related to lefties that think a national home is now obsolete.
Shooting hostiles trying to break into your country and "peacefully" raid nearby towns is just common sense. but I agree its tragic.

That structural Nazis are calling Jews Nazis is nothing new for me. But if you think the Jews like "to holocaust" the Palestinians then you would miss every year about 2 million Palestinians. But how many descendants have the 250,000 Arabs which had lived in the area Israel/Palestine in 1864, when no one cared only a little about this nearly empty area of the world, which was hostile to life? The Palestinians have the highest population growth in the world!

Sure it was a disaster what had happened now. Very very sad! Who destroys only one life destroys a universe of possibilities. Nevertheless I have to say when I heard "70 years Israel"-celebrations I knew immediately something will happen too, what will be disaster. Now had happened something what was a disaster. How was I - and everyone else in the world - able to know this? Now come empty phrases which are called "reasons". For to be able to say such empty phrases had to die people. That's the shame.

But the world is not able to do nothing any longer - no celebrations any more - no public life at all - only because some people offer nothing else than the leady heaviness of death. It's since decades extremely idiotic what happens there. An area like Gaza should exist nowhere in the world. But this is for sure not the problem of the Iran. The Palestinians are Arabs - not Persians. The Iran has not more or less responsibility than all other nations in the world have too. I would say the most easy is it to open the border of Gaza direction Egypt. The majority of the people in Egypt are Arabs too.
