Everyone will have enough to eat. You can ride it out. You're tough, you Americans.

Or go to the store, or the gas station, or the park. Each of the ten people they infect will infect another ten, etc.

Are you prepared for what it will look like if you refuse to fight it?

Your 'small risk' could cripple your healthcare system in a month. Probably less. Do you understand what that means? That means there will be NO ONE available to care for all the other health problems people have. Spend some time thinking about the consequences of that.

Sick, but not dead. I know middle aged people who had barely any symptoms. It's wise to keep perspective, even as a supporter of hard lock down.

I don't really understand what the argument is. The states still get to decide, right? If you live in a state that is going to open up soon, and you're afraid, you can always move to a state that still has a lot of virus and chooses to stay on lockdown and try your luck there. So what the hell is the problem?

There's some truth to this. Some states have been hit less hard than others, and those states could probably resume some semblance of normal operations. Why take the chance though?

Wonderful, but remember, vaccine is not a cure and the vulnerable will succumb to the beast regardless :(

Are you prepared to lose healthcare? Because that broken leg, cancer, heart attack, raging infection, ruptured appendix, etc .. none of those will be treated if your system collapses.

The combination of mass vaccination, plus effective treatment protocols, will reduce the death rate to a regular flu average. That means we can get back to normal.

The problem is that in any country with community transmission, the free movement of people between states and cities etc, is lethal. Even the free movement of people within a given city, is lethal.

And hopefully that is part of the inevitable! If not, the inevitable will happen without it :(

You can be forgiven this as you are not a U.S. citizen; but whether or not the U.S. reopens for business as usual is not actually up to Trump. Each governor is in charge or his or her own state. They decide for their populations.

We will beat it into submission (or at least to the status of the regular flu). Fear not, Grasshopper :)

I don't mean your insurance, I mean your hospital/healthcare system.

We don't really understand why or how that is happening. This enemy is common to the entire nation.

Well I can't control that! I don't worry much about that as we have ample medical space and a fairly small population..

That's just the way our nation is designed. Constitutionally each state is its own mini-nation and could -- theoretically tell the federal government to, "Get stuffed!" The fed -- and thus the president -- does have some ability to coerce a certain level of cooperation. But strong arm tactics are never certain.

Yes, me too. It's they who will beat it, after all.
