So what's wrong with that? 35% import tax seems fair. In fact raising import taxes on all imports from China and India wouldn't be a bad idea. At least those customer service operators might be speaking good English. Obviously those companies in Washington, New York and Illinois that do the same for some time now are exempt from your comment.

True. Obama's hippy mother and liberal grandparents taught him to dislike the U.S. Then in his early years he was taught as a Muslim. He still has those two traits in his soul. He's the perfect example of an educated man who can't think for himself.

The reason Obama did nothing is because he wants the U.S. to lose companies to foreign countries. But the media will never ask him why. And the liberals on this forum will also not comment on the matter. The reason is because they agree with Obama that it's good to hurt the United States. That is a sad fact.

The comments made on this thread by the right wingers are utterly laughable. They claim Obama did nothing to preserve jobs but will not address the fact that he, like Clinton, created MILLIONS of jobs while Bush I & II lost millions.

    Laughably pathetic!

One can only hope that he will. For unless we reverse this elite scheme of economic globalization we will have basically a two class system in 50 years. The peasants and the rich elites. That is where globalization leads. The fact that you need large middle classes with disposable income has been forgotten in the interest of short term maximization of profits.

Nothing has changed in what makes a nation, strong, powerful, healthy, since Washington turned trade policy over to Hamilton who tariffed foreign goods to make up the difference in labor costs. For the world has always been filled with poor people who will work for cents on the dollar. If the current paradigm of free trade had been used at our founding, we would be a 3rd world nation today, and would have never seen the rise of the largest middle class in world history. We would not have been able to out produce japan and Germany and win ww2. Protecting our own industry by tariffs obviously worked, and not doing it has created the hollowed out nation of today. Ain't rocket science folks. For what created the powerful America was tariffs, not free trade. This idea we have to compete with slave wages or we implode is utter nonsense. For we have a couple hundred years of tariffs, which allowed us to become what we once were, until neoliberalism, robber baron economics took over, beginning in the 80s.

The trade deal, where we must be competitive with slave wages is nonsense, nonsense that our founders were smart enough not to buy into. We can create and sustain a large middle class without selling one widget to some other nation. The only cost is....business has to accept a reasonable profit instead of maximum profit. Trade is only to make friends to limit war, and sourcing raw materials and luxury items, like fine French wine. Americans have been brainwashed and sold a bill of goods when it comes to trade. I think it helps to have been educated prior to the 1980s. Before neoliberalism infiltrated everything, including academia. I got an education prior to this. Yep, you been brainwashed, by utter nonsense.

Whether Obama ever gave in to corporate extortion and paid up with concessions on the part of the taxpayer (encouraging other shakedown artists to demand similar "deals") the indisputable reality is that he will bequeath to the novelty act a far healthier US economy that the hapless Bush dumped on him:

If Trump makes good on his promise to spend many billions of taxpayer dollars on the nation's infrastructure, the growth under Obama should continue.
