Trump the only living president NOT descended from slavers

The irony here is incredible. The big Democrat names on the list are pretty amazing. It's obvious why Reuters did this little deep dive, but I'm wondering what they expected to accomplish.

That is because Trump is a recent immigrant. The parents of his dad were both immigrants, his mother was an immigrant, just like that bimbo of a wife he got. lol

 

I'm not sure it's ironic that Trump isn't in the list given his ancestors of that period were European rather than American.

In general, it seems like there are Democrats and Republicans alike in the list and it isn't as if the politics of the current generation has much to do with ancestors going so many generations back. The article also points out that the same would be true of lots of Americans throughout the population, so many that it's impossible to be sure exactly how many.

I agree that this specific angle doesn't really accomplish anything other that highlight how recent institutional slavery actually was.

Admission? What is there to admit to? Modern politicians are not somehow worse people if they happen to be descended from people who owned slaves.

What is your point? Surely you are not saying that the children, or grand-, or great- grandchildren, are responsible for the actions of their ancestors-- if you were, then you would also support the concept of "reparations," for slavery. As I'm pretty sure you regard that idea, that the descendants of slaves should be due any compensatory damages, to be utter nonsense, you could not hold the opinion that the descendants of slave owners bear any guilt, without that making the obvious point of your thread, that you have no constant principles, and will happily contend things in direct opposition to your arguments on other issues.

Here's hoping that, before the 2024 election, you will be able to upgrade, to at least a 1998 Kia (though their cars didn't start becoming actually good, until 2009).
