Trump's trial in E. Jean Carroll defamation case begins

Donald Trump attended the first day of his civil defamation trial, watching as a jury was selected to determine how much, if any, damages the former president must pay to E. Jean Carroll for his 2019 defamatory statements about Carroll’s sexual assault allegations.

Trump’s courthouse attendance Tuesday — where he attended jury selection but did not speak — came one day after his resounding Iowa caucuses win, yet another illustration of how Trump’s campaign and legal fortunes are intertwined.

Trump watched as prospective jurors were asked about their political donations to him and his political opponents, whether they believed the 2020 election was stolen and how they got their news.

Poor Trump.

His only line of defense is to claim that the jury members he chooses will be biased against him.

Playing the victim to the bitter end.

The purpose of this trial is to determine the amount of damages Trump will have to pay for defaming Ms. Carroll.

Trump was found liable for sexually assaulting Ms. Carroll this fall.

I believe Trump will be fined $30 million.

You know Im far from a Trump supporter, but this one makes no sense to me. Two people in a room consensually, and then 25 years later she claims it was sexual assault, but she goes after money, and not criminal charges? And all of this when he is POTUS ? This sure sounds like a money grab, or a publicity stunt. Why not go after him before, or even when he is RUNNING for POTUS, why wait until he IS POTUS ?

The time limit for criminal prosecution had expired.

Motivations don't matter to me.

Both sides presented their evidence and the jury decided that the preponderance of evidence was in Ms. Carroll's favor.

It must be said that Trump has lied repeatedly in this case.

He claimed never to have met Ms Carroll before a photo of her with Trump was presented in court.

Trump said she was too ugly for him to have molested her, while he mistook Ms Carroll for his own wife in a photo shown to him under questioning.

From that moment on, Trump was toast.

After losing the case, Trump continued to defame her.

That's why he's still in court today.

 

But thats the point....WHY now AFTER he was elected POTUS

Why should a victim of sexual assault need to justify her motivation when she decides to sue?

All that matters is the truth and the evidence.

If your goal is to sow doubt in my mind about Trump's possible innocence, it won't work.

26 women have come out publicly since 2017 to denounce Trump for sexual misconduct.

One of them, ms Carroll, decided to go all the way.

And she won.

Trump defamed Ms Carroll, recognized as a victim of sexual assault by a jury.

Trump claims to be a billionaire and the court's aim is to find an amount dissuasive enough for him to stop his attacks.

I say $30 million.

 

Actually, it was very standard jury of peers that decided Trump was liable. Unless we've also been a banana republic for the last 200 years, not
sure what the **** you are sqwacking about.

 

Shall we start a pool on what the settlement will be this time? I'm going to guess $45 million AND by the end of this, Carroll will have started
a THIRD defamation case against Trump because the guy is incapable of shutting his mouth.

The judge ruled the jurors would remain anonymous to the defendants lawyers in a CIVIL trial making the jury selection unfair.

 

And then when Trump offered his DNA to refute her claims, the judge refused it lol saying it was too late. What the **** is that?

Trump lost because he continued to be a stupid jerk. He lost the minute the access Hollywood tape was admitted into court because it is him bragging about attacking women. He doubled down on it in his deposition
