Okay My intent with this thread is that it be a light hearted look at some of the pseudo-science floating like faeces on the top of the internet.

I have another poster on another thread to thank for giving me the seeding foundation for this thread

    http://www.happyhealthybrain.com/20...tering-global-cooling-for-the-next-180-years/

Now call it - truth or twaddle!

(BTW feel free to add your own quote from some source)

And remember although we are doing this in a light hearted manner we must remember HOW this "trick" works. It is an advertising ploy. Be general enough about something and people will "fill in the blanks". The very serious implications of a discussion like this is to help those without formal tertiary level education to gain the ability to themselves call truth or twaddle

    twaddle

with a reduced magnetophere, the suns solar wind penatrates (ie... increased aurora)

is the earth perhaps having another pole reversal? Could be!

Nope old chap this was denialist

The latest "GW is not man made" excuse - and an interesting twist using known psychological tricks from the advertising world.

This next "Truth or Twaddle" is a little harder

I think its twaddle. Aside from the earths poles shifting I didn't see anything about gravity shifting.

Another story of interest about the poles and dead birds. Muhwah..... read this then tell me is it truth or twaddle?

sshhh don't tell Oxford University it is twaddle

    http://www.earth.ox.ac.uk/research/groups/magnetism/research/geomagnetic_excursions

let me get this straight you believe the earths geo magnetic fields are static and unchanging and/or you do not believe the geo magnetic field has anything to do with the atmosphere or oceans.

    amazing, absolutely amazing

there are hundreds of other links but why bother

    1) what keeps the atmosphere from floating off into space
    2) what keeps the oceans from floating off into space
    3) what keeps you from floating off into space

NASA says the answer to all of those questions is constantly in a state of flux

I was going to call Twaddle just on the basis of the "Russian ministry of Extraordinary Situations" because THAT title just sounded too bizarre for words - but it turns out there is such a ministry. Sorry - it must be too much British comedy but the title conjures up visions of some high ranking official being caught "In flagrante delicto" and screaming at everyone to contact the "Ministry for Extraordinary Situations"

It SOUNDS like twaddle - or a really really bad translation and like all good twaddle stories there is some truth (pole shift) mixed with the rest of the Bizzarro stuff

JD - you know what people say about those who ASSUME something don't you?

The original article said nothing about pole shift

He is not even talking about the magnetosphere affecting gravity - he is actually simply talking about some vague and weird "gravitational cycles" where somehow the moon's gravity changes over millennia

    http://www.happyhealthybrain.com/20...tering-global-cooling-for-the-next-180-years/

I tell you - if we could harvest the nuts on the internet we would feed the world:disbelief:

Ok in your article : I knew the poles shifted, that I got ; but what gravity had to do with it, I thought was made up. So thats why I said,"Twaddle"

My story is here : http://www.naturalnews.com/030996_bird_deaths_pole_shift.html

Far as I know the article is a serious discussion. Its all true.
    Thanks Bowerbird.

    I say Twaddle.
Trouble with the "space cloud" hypothesis is that noctilucent clouds are made up of crystals of water ice, not hydrogen cyanide. And "space clouds" do nothing to explain the death of fish and HCN would kill indiscriminately.

What Bowerbirds thread is about is our story's. The article I sighted was about the phenomenon of something affecting the birds and the Russians are in the article explaining their theory. So my post was truth not twaddle; because of the article. Thanks Mannie. I don't know if they are right or not either.

Hint: it's not magnetism. It's one of the other four basic forces in the universe. Can you name them all?

    You and me both.

I know I google hit a discussion that SOUNDED plausible until I started googling "noctilucent clouds" and discovered that once again people get a story like this and start to "fill in the blanks with science/phenomena that sort of fit hmmmm maybe yes hmmmmm maybe not...............perhaps we should call it the "bandaid effect" :bandaid:

Initially a tough one = but what I might do old mate is ask you if you will be so kind, as to put in a link so we can look at the original site - I know that is a bit of a give away in the game but it is still fun!

Hmmmm - it is looking a bit valid as one of the google hits is from the "journal of nutrition" but that is no guarantee and the backing foundation mentioned in your article is questionable because of bias

I would personally like to look at some EBP (evidence based practice) a systematic analysis or a metanalysis before I threw my hat in the air either way

But you might find this interesting

No disrespect for all my very distant relatives, but they aren't my favorite role models. I don't a lot about medicine, but from what I've heard, dying tissue, like a placenta outside the mother's body, is a health risk. While most of the above is twaddle, one point made sounds very plausible to me.

You will see why I didn't post the link. I am trying to make it interesting for everyone. I assumed we would guess and after several attempts the person would reveal their source. So I guess your leaning toward twaddle!

For a healthy heart grab your nuts.

    B.Larset,
I like your idea of not posting links. That way we can sneak in some less than credible articles and see if they will convince anyone

For some reason, I cannot get to page 2 and use the "quote poster" button.
