Rep. Sylvia Garcia, D-Texas, was accused of badgering journalist Matt Taibbi into revealing a source on Thursday during a heated House Judiciary Committee hearing on the "Twitter Files," but the reporter wouldn't budge.

Sourcing was a sensitive subject as it had already come up during the hearing when Taibbi was asked directly about it regarding his reporting on internal Twitter communications and accusations of government censorship. Garcia asked Taibbi when Twitter owner Elon Musk first approached him to partake in the "Twitter Files" project, which has allowed once-secret internal discussions to be exposed, revealing an array of issues.

Taibbi began to say he couldn’t reveal that information when Garcia insisted she simply needed a date.

"I can’t give it to you, unfortunately, because this is a question of sourcing, and I’m a journalist. I don’t reveal my sources," Taibbi said….

…Garcia said it’s not about the source, but rather chronology, but he didn’t agree.

"No, that’s a question of sources," Taibbi said.

The Democrat from Texas continued to press the issue.

"You earlier said that someone had sent you through the internet, some message about whether or not you would be interested in some information," Garcia said.

"Yes, and I referred to that person as a source," Taibbi shot back…
…Garcia asked, "So you’re not going to tell us when Musk first approached you?"

"Again, congresswoman, you’re asking a journalist to reveal a source,"

The democrat party war against a free and independent press drags on. They showed their true colors again today. Their anger and bitterness over being exposed on Twitter knows no bounds.

    Oh!!! Mean words!!!

Why is a “journalist” appearing at a committee hearing? Doesn’t sound like a function of that job.

They were asked / invited? Too bad democrats can’t deal with free speech and freedom of the press they don’t control.

    I loved it.

Journalist Matt Taibbi eviscerated Twitter and other social and mainstream media outlets during a House Judiciary Committee hearing Thursday, saying their collusion with the federal government over “disinformation” had created “a form of digital McCarthyism” in the 21st century.

“Effectively, news media became an arm of a state-sponsored thought-policing system,” Taibbi, 53, told members of the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government in his opening statement.

“We learned Twitter, Facebook, Google, and other companies developed a formal system for taking in moderation ‘requests’ from every corner of government: the FBI, DHS, HHS, DOD, the Global Engagement Center at State, even the CIA.”

Taibbi — who along with fellow reporters Michael Shellenberger and Bari Weiss was granted access last year to Twitter’s internal communications by CEO Elon Musk — said his “Twitter Files” investigation revealed that the social media giant collaborated with the US government “to turn the internet into an instrument of censorship and social control” as part of an “anti-disinformation” push.

Federal government agencies, leftist political operatives and organizations, major media outlets, and big tech telecom platforms conspired to formulate, coordinate, and disseminate singular, party-approved narratives for any and all political, social, or cultural interests and actively suppressed criticism and contrarity of such. Evidence of these efforts isn't really new but this is the first time we've had such a gross insider view to what went on and had people in government willing to make public inquiries into it.

No, no no no. This wont get cleared up for generations. We're living in Soviet Russia type control here and we're too influenced to fully grasp the depths of it. The general public wont truly appreciate the massive orchestration that Marxist leftists have undertaken in order to seed and reinforce their ideology in our lifetime. It will be for people 40-50 years from now to truly examine. They'll probably look back and think: Holy ****, prog controlled education entertainment finance and telecom was utilized to brainwash tens of millions with and nearly everyone was blissfully ignorant of it.

Or to advance and promote his podcast, which is oddly right wing/conspiracy theory centric.

Because that’s what liberals do, right? Promoting the right wing is all that’s there are about….lol! They are simply defending a free press and free speech, two concepts totally opposed by the secular progressive establishment.

I have no idea what that has to do with what I said nor the thread topic.

Taibbi is far from a journalist. He has long pushed some pro-Trumpian conspiracy theory nonsense and made wild claims with seemingly no factual backing. It saddens me that a person so potently partisan woudl be called as some sort of informed witness at a hearing designed to further bad conspiracy theory to excuse Trump's failures not only as a president but as a human.

I am sorry that Trump is unliked, thought of as a viscous fool and and immoral coward. But Social media was not the root cause. Trump being a vicious fool and immoral coward was.

They both voted for Biden, and it's hilarious that Democrats are attacking Taibbi and claiming he is not a journalist,

Taibbi directly addressed Plaskett's comments after the congresswoman finished her opening statement.

"Ranking Member Plaskett, I'm not a so-called journalist," Taibbi said during the hearing. "I've won the National Magazine Award, the I.F. Stone Award for Independent Journalism, and I've written 10 books, including four New York Times bestsellers."

I believe there are times when journalists should be required to reveal their sources such as with national security and espionage issues and other serious crimes. I don’t, however, feel revealing Twitter sources meets that criteria. In the end, the guy should have given a date and moved on.

If Matt Taibbi is not going to reveal his sources in open, under-oath testimony, then his entire testimony should be stricken from the record, period. We know he was given the files and we know that he has selective excepts from those files. But to not give his sources for Twitter or wherever causes his testimony to be suspect in legal terms.

What is this 4th grade? 'I'm rubber, you're glue, bounces off me and sticks to you! Weeeeee.'

How many GOP blinded people do you know who are pro-choice, pro-same-sex marriage, and pro-ending the war on drugs, and making them legal for adults who want them? Not to mention I think abrahamic religions are just socially acceptable cults that have no business imposing their will on our government, and that consenting adults can and should bang anyone they can find of whatever gender floats their boat on a regular basis?

So... No, that doesn't apply to me.

That's not the point. I am thick skinned, feel free to call me whatever you like. I answer to "Hey, you", "Dude!", "freako", "hey a$$hole", and much more. But for the love of whatever deity you hold fealty to, be original! And maybe address the substance of people's posts instead of your drive by nonsensical one- and two-word nonsense that says nothing.
