'Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney says the U.S. economy could take years to recover from its current weak state — and may never return to its glory days.

“The nature of the U.S. recovery, it's going to take a number of years before they get back to the U.S. that we used to know,” Mr. Carney told CTV's Question Period.

“In fact, they are not in our opinion ultimately going to get back fully to the U.S. we used to know.”'

This has been accepted wisdom for some time by those who look at the figures and ignore the BS.
I think he has actually hugely understated the truth but that is understandable and --- who knows? --- perhaps the best thing .
If you tell the passengers on the cruiser that the ship is sinking , I guess the resultant hysteria and panic will probably increase the carnage .

Ideologically driven deliberate ignorant intransigence will be the doom of the US.

    I don't believe this for a minute..

Canada is getting screwed .. and I fear Canadians don't know their resources are being sold out from under them by their own government.

The foreign owned Canadian oil companies have Canada shipping Canadian oil to the US as a way of avoiding taxes.. They are also cheating Canadians out of jobs and refineries.. Oh Nafta.

Meanwhile, Canada has to IMPORT 43 % of their crude oil... from the ME and North Africa.

It won't ever go back as long as globalists are in control. They are more concerned with the world as a whole. They have no intention of America returning to greatness. However, history has shown us democracy for show comes with a catch. A weakness totalitarians don't suffer. Nationalists at any given time can be voted in. Sure the public isn't there quite yet, but anyone paying attention can see it coming.

Can't see the connection which encourages your opening remark .
If you were hinting at some over riding conspiracy between the real power brokers across all Sovereign States , I might privately be nodding in possible agreement . But that tends to give one a public " nutty " image at this point in the unfolding drama .
My comments were ex Canada , which , in the broadest terms , is one of the soundest Western economies . It will inevitably be dragged down by contagion when the ship next door sinks . By , "How far" , is the big question .

    To Margot ,
Not sure how my last Post , which was a response to one of yours , was made three times .
It certainly was not done consciously or deliberately . There is no sub text !

Clueless central bankers saying typically clueless things.

Also lol at the new narrative they are adopting, ''there is no hope for salvation so just surrender to the banksters''.

Why do Kentucky Hilly Billies write in that strange way ? And why is it they are quite good with words that have five or more letters but quite hopeless with ones that have four , when they try to write in English .
Obviously if you are disabled and tap the keyboard with your nose , I apologise .

Waltky is actually quite intelligent. He just posts like that because it's his thing. He has been around a long time, and I'm sure all PF members are as fond of "Uncle Ferd" and "Granny" as I. I know the term "originality", or "individualism", is lost on many. We thrive on it in America. It is who we are.

I was not being that serious == more an irritant to my finely honed and tuned ears than to you cowboys .
Here , in the home of humour , we find black , absurd and surreal humour more entertaining .
But obviously if the Hilly Billy take off still has them doubled up in the aisles , I shall just smile and move on .
    PS . Puck Granny .
    Far funnier . imo

I do know in Canada, since the government won a majority they likely will pass the related bills for 10% cuts. Projected this will end our deficit for 2014/15 which is taking the current bad economy already into factor.

I am all for the cuts to bring everything to at least if no surplus, at least it will be balanced. I think they should also add the GST they reduced back as it alone counted for $8 bln per percent per year and therefore technically accounted for most of our good year surplus.

From what Im reading for the USA though is a trillion deficit for every year for many years. That would still be $100 billion in our 1/10th smaller economy.

Your inability to even have that committee come up with a solution instead of simply stating they failed last fall does not bold well.

IMO, there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY the Canadian federal budget will be balanced by 2015.

Harper is an emotionally disturbed, American-envying, macro-economic hypocritical, control freak.

The guy ran the biggest deficit (by a MILE) in Canadain history and he authorized a larger bailout of Canadian banks then even TARP was (on a per capita basis)...and he calls himself a fiscal conservative?

He will NEVER post another balanced budget as PM...guaranteed.

Ah a liberal, yes I am aware that as of year, that's when we posted the small one followed by 2009/10 sinkhole. Strange how that happens to be during the same year the USA hit 1.4 trillion for one year alone. So given that was the year of the complete financial meltdown, it was harper that minimized the damage. It could have been much worse.
