Without global heating, such warm temperatures would be expected only once every five centuries, Met Office says

The record-breaking heat in the UK in 2022 was made 160 times more likely by the climate crisis, indicating the dominant influence of human-caused global heating on Britain.

Last year has been confirmed as the UK’s hottest on record, with the average annual temperature passing the 10C mark for the first time. Scientists at the Met Office calculated that such heat is now expected every three to four years. Without the greenhouse gases emitted by humanity, such a warm year would be expected only once every five centuries.

The 10.03C recorded in 2022 beat the previous record of 9.88C set in 2014, and is 0.89C above the average of the last three decades. All the UK nations set new record annual temperatures.

    ........

“The UK surpassing an annual average temperature of 10C is a notable moment in our climatological history [and] comes as no surprise. Since 1884, all 10 years recording the highest annual temperature have occurred from 2003. It is clear from the observational record that human-induced global warming is already impacting the UK’s climate.” Nine of the 10 coldest years on record occurred more than a century ago, the Met Office data showed.

Everything bad all the time wherever is always climate change.

We need to start calling this boogeyman theory.

Except the planet has been cooling.
UAH Global Temperature Update: 2022 was the 7th Warmest of 44-Year Satellite Record
    January 3rd, 2023
December of 2022 finished the year with a global tropospheric temperature anomaly of +0.05 deg. C above the 1991-2020 average, which was down from the November value of +0.17 deg. C.

The average anomaly for the year was +0.174 deg. C, making 2022 the 7th warmest year of the 44+ year global satellite record, which started in late 1978. Continuing La Nina conditions in the Pacific Ocean have helped to reduce global-average temperatures for the last two years. The 10 warmest years were:

    • #1 2016 +0.389
    • #2 2020 +0.358
    • #3 1998 +0.347
    • #4 2019 +0.304
    • #5 2017 +0.267
    • #6 2010 +0.193
    • #7 2022 +0.174
    • #8 2021 +0.138
    • #9 2015 +0.138
    • #10 2018 +0.090
The linear warming trend since January, 1979 continues at +0.13 C/decade (+0.12 C/decade over the global-averaged oceans, and +0.18 C/decade over global-averaged land).

    What a ridiculous claim.
    1. There is no climate crisis.
    2. There have been no warm year records set in many millions of years since the Earth went from Warm Earth Conditions to Cold Earth Conditions, likely because of the current configuration of the continents.
    3. Warmer conditions would be a welcome blessing.
    4. We are in an overall 8,000 year long cooling trend.
Now we see look to see who is pressing yet another lying disinformation campaign of fraud on the American People:

IT’S OKAY TO TRAFFIC IN MISINFORMATION WHEN IT’S NARRATIVE-SUPPORTING LEFTY MISINFORMATION: “Climate Fraud”: Fusion GPS fingerprints surface yet again.

FUSION GPS? Gee where have we heard about this pack of liars before working through cutouts for the DNC and the Drunken Hillary campaign?

Sheep-Dipped Dirtbag FBI Operators: 'An organization headed by an FBI analyst-turned-Democrat operative & vociferous Russiagater, Daniel Jones, has funded both Fusion GPS – the firm that laundered Hillary Clinton’s funding of the infamous ‘Steele Dossier’ – and a study which found an increase in “climate change misinformation” on Twitter since Elon Musk bought the company.'

    Tell us more!

'Jones, a former staffer for Democrat Senator Dianne Feinstein (of ‘Chinese spy driver’ fame), founded ‘Advanced Democracy,’ through which he shared a study with USA Today which claims that instances of “climate fraud,” “climate hoax,” and “climate scam” jumped over 300% in 2022.'

So what does this clown look like?

British citizens should be thankful. Warming is beneficial. Always has been. Perhaps the British vineyards of the Medieval Warm Oeriod will be back soon.

So we are all agreed that 2022 was UK's hottest year on record. :flame: Good to know.

Which is about .005% of the planet's surface while it is cooling over all I am sure some stoves are hotter too but again just as irrelevant.......

This is a truly STUPID title:

Which is a LIE since there is no climate crisis ongoing at all as this thread below clearly shows again it has been cooling for around 7 years now.

Absolutely. The majority of the previous ten warming periods of the Holocene have all been warmer than the current warming period.

Here in Southwest Florida I scraped ice off of my windshield to leave work at 6:20 a.m. yesterday and I will likely have to do the same thing again in about 5 hours.

It's because of climate change.... Around here we call it "seasons" and right now it's what they refer to as winter.

We have two seasons here.... Hot as hell and cold as hell.

The Holocene is the current climate period that we are living in. This period covers ~ 10,000 years from the end of the last ice age in which the town I grew up in in Michigan was under one mile of ice to the present day. The climate history of the Holocene is much more relevant to our present day climate. Global warming is beneficial as is clearly shown by the historical record for the last three warming periods namely the Medieval, Roman, and Minoan warm periods. Human civilization greatly expanded and thrived during these warm periods.

I am aware of what the Holocene period is.

OK, so you don't deny global warming is happening. You just think it's a good thing.

Global warming is beneficial as shown by economic analyses compiled and published by Dr. Richard Tol, former IPCC analyst, in his book “Climate Economics”.

Read the book which is used as a college textbook. The main cost factor associated with the current global warming is increased air conditioning costs.

Facts matter. Unless they contradict global alarmist narratives.

Oh I'm sure it's a famous college textbook. The reviews are very flattering.

Thank you for the interesting 'discussion'.

Not refuting, questioning. This from the link in #5.
". . . In light of this recent urban heat evidence, the Daily Sceptic has asked the Met Office if it intends to continue using raw data from airport and urban sites without making substantial recalculations to remove all non-climatic corruptions? As we have noted, the Met Office has failed to respond. But urban heat corruption must be a major consideration when analysing this heavily-quoted data. In the year of the hot summer of 1976, the average annual temperature was 8.74oC, compared with this year’s 9.99oC. But only 56 million people lived in the U.K. around 50 years ago compared with almost 69 million today. Over the last 50 years there has been considerable urban development, and many towns and cities have increased significantly in size and density.

It is reasonable to ask if average Met Office temperatures rising well over 1oC during this period solely reflect natural increases, or is around 50% of the warming a temporary feature of urban development? One day, the Met Office might tell us. Since 1979, the satellite record has shown warming across the globe of around 0.6oC. Temperatures have still to pass the last high point in 1998. . . . "

And here I thought that global warming alarmists are truly interested in science?

Changes in global temperatures are so small that it takes at least a 30 year period to substantiate a trend. Since the natural variability (1, 2, 3 standard deviations) of climate is unknown changes in short term temperature cannot be attributed to a change in the climate. The behavior of the atmosphere is described by a system of non linear partial differential equations (aka as a chaotic system). It is not possible to solve these equations thus we will never be able to accurately predict long term weather much less climate.
