This is a really good article.

I've condensed it due to it's length, but you can read it all here.

Same old, same old. Don't listen to whitey, because all of his angst is about race.

Considering that many "Hispanics" are actually white, I don't understand what these right wing and white nationalist clowns are up in arms about. Whites won't be a minority for a long time.

I'll never understand why the hell are Italians considered "white" but "Hispanics" are not. Ralph Macchio, an Italian guy with a tan skin color is "white", but George Zimmerman, a half German/Peruvian guy with tan skin is not "white". Doesn't make sense, but whatever.

Yeah, cuz it's all about focusing exclusively on a person's skin color, not judging them by the content of their character.

MLK didn't know what he was talking about. Race is ALL that matters. Anyone can be honest - but not everyone can be [fill in with favorite skin color]. :roflol:

It is interesting that you say that...

Here, in Canada, race is rarely part of the equation and when it is, it is never a matter of skin color. For the record, Indians, as in from India, are Caucasians, some of whom are of the "Aryan Caste", but, like Europeans and Asians, are identified by their place of origin.

We have never, in the history of the country had a race riot. Our biggest racial difference is over language rights with the minority French pushing for legislation to protect it while the country's second language is rapidly becoming Hindi....

Europeans, whites where you are I guess, are less than 50% of the population and no one's getting bent out of shape about it.

Frankly, I would rather live this way and enjoy other cultures than to fight against them.

Race stuff is all arbitrary all the time. Race is about 'categories.' Man makes all categories, nature doesn't do categories. Nature does continuums.

The *********s think they can run the country by running the House. They can't. All they can do is make constitutional government impossible.

That will be a worse hurt to the nation than the ACA would be in the most fevered imaginings of the TPers.

More proof that liberals obsess about race. Since liberals view most everything through a racial lens, they are blind to the fact that not everyone else does.

More proof that conservatives protest-too-much about any analysis touching on race.

There are dozens of conservative posts on this board every day that work a racial angle into their criticism of the current administration, with various 'clever' levels of deniability.

The racial fear of the right-wingers can be felt in their posts, especially in this thread. What makes their fear even funnier is their ultimate faith in the “ U.S. whiteness” of T’bagger Ted Cruz. He is a Texas Republican, Hispanic, born in Alberta, Canada.

The right-wingers feel this “real American” is the man who is going to take their country back from the evil minorities, even as he runs from the mess he started.

His nonsensical filibuster to force the defunding of the ACA, the resulting government shutdown, and the possible federal default will have all of the blame falling on the Tea Partiers and the Congressional Republicans that fell into lockstep behind them.

The hours of empty and meaningless text from that filibuster will make a fitting epitaph for the Koch Brothers’ Tea Party.

I'm so happy the libs found a new boogeyman so they don't have to come to terms with the lousy president they elected.

Yes, as a matter of fact. Not over Cruz himself, his moment has passed. But over what his attempted coup might unleash.

This man with his 'restore the Constitution' BS has actually put it in more jeopardy than it's been in for a generation.

Maybe you lack the imagination to understand what 'instability in government' could mean in this country, or the wit or decency to fear it.

How on earth does one lil ole jr senator from Texas have this much power?

Or is he just your scapegoat for Obama?

Sen Cruz has no power... unless you give it to him.

President Obama is the man in charge.

Like all right-wingers your perception is mind-boggling narrow, and you either refuse to see the big picture, or you are simply unable to see it.

As his running mate, Sarah torpedoed the McCain 2008 Presidential campaign, and Cruz assured implementation of the ACA.

The complete idiocy of both have done this nation more than one favor. Hopefully, they will remain a major contributors to the continuing failure of the GOP and the Tea Party.

What makes this even better, you right-wingers do not realize this, and want conservatives and neoconservatives like Sarah and Ted to keep helping the Democrats in their own, unique ways.

Your denial of the truth is only good for the average Americans. Please, keep it up.

The black mans interpretation of racism felt by white conservatives/neoconservatives? His projections and theories can hardly be considered reliable, given the well-known and unmatched racial paranoia of the lily white right-wingers.

    This is the Establishment talking.
They still hold complete control over American society and so are indiferent to the changing nature of American identity, although it is very clear that America has ceased to be the creative nation it was once was ( I am not refering to superficial computer playthings - but to basic engineering hence the trillions in debt held by the East Asians. )
At the present set up Anglos ( including those who identify with them - the 'Whites' for a better word ) vote Republican because they appear to be speaking their language. The immigrants vote Democrat but these 'Democrats' are by and large Establishment liberal Anglos. When there is a Black candidate for President he gets elected. However for the house elections, the essential 'White' nature of the Democrats is expossed and the immigrants in vast numbers do not vote. The result is a Repubican house and an ungovernable country.
This nonsense will continue until the Latinos ( including Italian Americans ) in alliance with the Black and Catholic communities ( including Polish and Irish Americans ) take over the Democratic Party. Win both the Presidential and house elections, introduce a free press not controlled by the Anglo Establishment , direct the vast resources ( which at present are squandered on pointless wars ) to the welfare of the American People and try to form some sensible political union with Mexico ( which will be the source of future Americans. )

No see this is the fallacy, is that the right wing has this huge racist sector to it. Most people aren't racist anymore, you do realize that right? The Republicans attract more of them than the Dems but they're fringe, no one pays them any attention.

Welcome to the board, Linchpin. You are obviously a thoughtful observer. In my more pessimistic moments I think race/nationality/religion will continue to 'matter' as much as you say.

Heck if I know what this 'basic engineering' of which you speak is, though. The debt owned by China and Japan is the result of trade imbalance. Eastern manufacturing centers sell output here, get dollars. So, what to do with them? They don't have more US goods and services they want to buy--that's why the trade imbalance exists in the first place. So the best thing they can get with US dollars is US Bonds.

Most people don't self-identify as frank racists, any more. That, alas, is a different thing than harboring attitudes that, if ever hauled out and consciously evaluated, turn out to be racist....

Ahhhh....., nothing like a thread where nothing is provable. Same old Conservative/Liberal bickering.
I wonder, what would happen if you took a family that were the full pattern of stereotypical Liberalism and plopped them down in a place and time in history that required them to employ sustenance living by farming, hunting and gathering in order to live?

    They would be a big hit in the nearby village as they introduced themselves;

Lib Family- "WHAZUUP......................, Hi, my name is Nathan. And here is my wife Nathan. Here is my unaborted son Seecil...the one with the purple Mohawk and nose ring.......the one in the stroller". "And here is my 18 year old daughter....the bald one".

    Villagers- "WTF".

Lib Family- "Well, we're pretty hungry so where is the free food, the free housing, the free cell phones, medicare, medicaid, SS, SNAP, free-free-free"?

Villagers- "There is no free food or huts, build your own or die trying. And what the h@@@ are cell phones, medicare, medicaid, SS, SNAP"?

Lib Family- "I believe that people have a right to food, clothing, housing, phones, medical care, education etc. without any expectation on behalf of those receiving it. And a good start would be for you to give me half of your crops and a room in your hut. And when you go off to fight to the death against the next village over, I'll stay here and critique what you should have done during that battle. By the way, I noticed that you were eating animals here, you people are evil, don't you know that animals have faces too"?

Surely, I would like to be a fly on the wall to see that.
