So the information from the upcoming Census this year will be stored online, behind a firewall and will link all your information to your name and address.

This differs from previous years where only the raw data has been stored and hasn't been linked to your name or address.

Obviously this is going to cause some problems.

It's going to be online so it'll take about 5 minutes for someone to hack it.

It'll have your name, address, income, etc, etc, etc all nice and available.

Sounds like hackers are going to have a field day with all our information.

Anyone to give 0.000001% accurate information about themselves on these things are nit-wits.

Especially now that the politicians are selling everything off to foreign companies to manage.

They ask your income on your census?....that is weird to me. In the US they don't unless you get selected for the American Community Survey.

I can remember when your name and street address was not put on the census, it was considered, rightly, to be irrelevant. The census now is clearly intended for other reasons apart from the reasons given to us.

What things would be best to avoid putting in I wonder. Name and address and income seem irrelevant, as this would be within the taxation system anyway. Census data is broader and more about character. What things can be abused by power.... political affiliation or preference!? religion!?
Aren't we going to have a centralized online medical history system also? This would be a nice target for industrial hacking for insurers to access and cross reference census data to inflate pricing to the point of targeting each individual!!!

It makes me wonder if the deregulating trend of globalization does not create the security environment which turns the trend back around to increasing regulation.

They should break the connection between identity and data shortly after verifying ones participation, or whatever other reason they have for knowing identity to begin with. So the stored data is stripped of any association to identity details.

You'd think that would be obvious!!!!!????

I have to wonder though, are people getting more stupid? I turned on morning television this morning, its been a few years since I watched commercial morning TV, and both 9 and 7 were the most innane stupid drivel I've ever watched. I don't mean the topics, I mean the people hosting the show. We need IQ filters and bias measures on media personalities, seriously, holy frank where has my country gone. I have to mute the TV these days, its like listening to cows chew grass. /rant

I haven't filled out a census for years, I've been living abroad until September last year. From what I remember the census asks an income range not an actual figure. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah. Still a good bit of information to have if you're building a profile on people.

I have been saying it for some time - Australians are becoming more stupid and backward with each passing day, and the media are facilitating their demise. You just have to look at the unintelligent stuff they like watching on TV. As a logical demonstration, look at that TV show being advertised called "back in the room"" where they hypnotise people, and turn them into idiots and fools for everyone to laugh at. Just how low on the intellectual scale does Australian entertainment and media have to fall?

When you have the majority of the countries population with an IQ below 65. Its no wonder the country is in such a political and social mess.

The recourse for putting to much chlorine and chloride in the water - perhaps? After all these chemical were originally invented and used in gas death camps, not drinking water. :omg:

You are. Here is the form. https://www.census.gov/schools/pdf/2010form_info.pdf The only potential economic question is related to whether you own, rent, etc. No idea what the 2020 one will look like. The Community Survey done by the census is very intrusive into your private business like that though.

When I said "In the US..." way back when we went down that road, it should have been obvious what I was talking about....

Mate when I was moderating a board there were several programs we could use to pinpoint where a digital signal was coming from (we were picking up a lot of sock puppets that way)
