You are not a conservative. You are a leftist.

Conservatism in America is a political coalition of different groups. There is diverse opinion on matters of foreign and defense policy. There are three schools of conservative thought on these subjects. Realism, Neo-Conservatism, and Isolationism.

Neo-Conservatism has been discredited. Most of my life I subscribed to the Realist school of thought. But I recognize that the center can no longer hold.

There is a struggle within our ranks going on now between Isolationism and Realism. Isolationism is winning.

The American left also has a significant group who support Isolationism. The center cannot hold there either.

I once truly liked Australians because of my perception that we shared experiences and culture. Aussie anti-Americanism disabused me of that notion. If truth be told, Australians look down on Americans, especially conservative Americans. There is nothing to be gained by establishing a new outpost in the Northern Territories for the dying American empire.

With all due respect, you represent a miniscular segment of the American population- the far, far right expecting and hoping for a figurative 'end of days'.

My only political enemies are those who advocate the overthrow of the U.S. government or the dismantling of the U.S. Constitution.

And in general- Americans love Australians. Across the board.

Just watch how Americans react to any Aussie tourist they come across.

And I would imagine most Aussies don't spend much time thinking about American conservatives- though perhaps I am wrong. I know when I was there I never had a single Aussie mention it to me. Usually they wanted to buy the Yank a beer.

AntiAmericanism is the most overused term by conservative Americans, it's pathetic. Oh noes, they don't agree with everything we say, they're so antiAmerican!

Do you have an objectively determinable basis for saying that other than anecdotal evidence? Btw, I'm an atheist. I don't believe in the End of Days.

Are you the official spokesperson for Conservative Americans? or did you appoint yourself to that position Albert? If you said that as a conservative American or in my opinion there might be more validity to your argument.

I'm a neo-isolationist. There are a number of reasons why more and more conservatives are coming around to this view. Hostility to America is a building block as we try to change the course of American foreign policy back to its traditions.

A significant segment of the American left is also isolationist. This is one thing that crosses ideological lines. We arrive at this position for different reasons, but the net effect is the same.

I think your being a bit sensitive Albert, the Australian left tends to dominate the TV media and so together with the universal concepts of squaky wheels get oil, the noisy loudmouthed left gets a lot of disproporionate coverage.

Over half of Australians voted for the political right candidate in the last election but the way the system worked meant the current PM (political left) negotiated her way into office.

Overall though, you are right that their is a real and serious anti-US sentiment in some parts of the community, but it's not anti-American.

No more than you have an objectively determinable basis for any of your statements. Mine is purely subjective, based upon my experiences in the United States and Australia.

And I was speaking figuratively- as I said- when I mentioned your hope for the 'End of Days"

I understand what you mean. But that doesn't change the fact that it's time for America to slash its defense budget and avoid foreign entanglements of any kind. Placing US Marines in the Northern Territory is not in America's real interests.

The admission of having made a baseless statement is refreshing. And that is what you have just done.

If by the End of Days you mean that the existing order in America is doomed I agree. No polity in all of history has survived a prolonged and unrelenting period of financial instability. Can you name one?

I 100% gurrantee you that the STD(incurable) and AIDs rate of U.S. servicemen/women is lower than the Austalian population.

Leo, don't close your eyes and ears to Australia infractions. It was an Aussie that began talking about rednecks and dick size. Both sides are being equally silly.

Isolation strategies are the surest way to finish off the US economy once and for all.

Want to stack that up against some REAL statistics from Sexual Health? I can dig them up you know. I was working in Rockhampton during "Operation Tandem Thrust" and remember well the Sexual Health nurses complaining about the new and more drug resistant strains of STD's they were detecting in the prostitute population

    Yes and no

Generally we are further to the left than America - even our "right" is more left. Very possibly because this country was founded on socialist principles and that gives some Americans hives.

What Americans do not "get" is our sense of humour which commonly relies on pulling someone leg so hard it comes off in your hand

When the US Marines come to your town you'll be pulling more than just legs. There will be plenty of coming.

IAN inferred that U.S. military personel would bring HIV and STDs to Australia. The U.S. military has a zero tolerance policy for HIV. Every service member is tested at least annually and if found to be HIV positive, discharged. In addition, debilitating STDs/Hepititis etc. are grounds for dismissal from the military. Finally, the constant medical examinations/blood tests every service member undergoes for deployment means detection levels are quite high, and treatment is free. The less serious treatable STDs (I made this distinction in my post) I can't speak on confidentally. I'd imagine they're pretty similar to most 18-25 year old demographics, the only difference being military members are subject to constant medical screenings/treatments. The old days are gnoe.

I agree with you - both sides are being quite childish. National leg-pulling, in fun, is to a degree, natural, but this thread seems to consist of nothing but mutual abuse. As such, it is less than interesting - but then, I am reading it, so I guess I shouldn't complain.

LOL, I'll see your bar of soap, and raise you some rounded vowels, not to mention some good beer that isn't chemicalised (is there such a word?) cat's widdle.

What do you call an Australian who has had his nose amputated? Answer - unable to speak. And just to show how impartial I am - the same applies to most Americans. :-D

Its got nothing whatsoever to do with protecting Australia -its about you having a strong strategic presence in the region to look after US interests.

you've made a mess of the middle east - now you want to mess up our region.
