Prof. John Mearsheimer initially studied at Westpoint gaining his BS there, then served 5 years in the Air Force.

He is a Professor at the University of Chicago and has been described as the most influential realist of his generation.

So, as the west knows Ukraine can’t win despite the propaganda, supplying arms is just prolonging the agony and is there another reason NATO want to keep this going. This is the closest NATO has got to a war with Russia without actually participating and a goldmine for the analysts of how the Russian forces operate. NATO countries are scrambling to buy US hardware, two countries are joining it – the cash tills are ringing for the US arms manufacturers.

Trump had ideas of business projects in Russia since the 80’s and concentrated on China. Hunter Biden has business interests in China and the Biden administration now focuses on Russia. Or is that too simple a theory.

I think the US propaganda may have used a 'sunk cost' fallacy as well as 'bait and switch'.

First they lied about how the Ukraine was winning and got us on board with that. Not only did they have three times the armor and three times the soldiers, but because they were defending their country they had higher morale than Russia which was purely attacking. So we were baited.

Then they declared they just needed another 800 million dollars in weapons to win, after we had sent 700 million previously, and along came the sunk cost fallacy.

Everyone I've met in real life and most of those on this forum seem to still be on board with the 'Russia attacked without provocation' narrative despite the torturous route that narrative has had to follow.

So who provoked them and why?

Provocation is about what each group is afraid of.

Russia has been attacked and invaded repeatedly over the past few centuries including in 1918 by the US, as well as in WW1 and WW2 by Germany.

The Eastward advance of the NATO military alliance looks threatening and could bring nuclear missiles a lot closer to Moscow.

And back in 1962, the US took Russian nuclear missiles in Cuba as a threat worthy of going to war.

The Cuban missile crisis could have led to nuclear war.

It is worth noting that each group, the US, Ukraine, and Russia has different objectives.

The continuing three day war has not achieved its objective. Zelensky is still alive and breathing in a free city of Kiev. Putin is a sick little dictator living out his final days.
