Although the steady, permanent military aid to Egypt never ceased, USA did cancel some in response to that government massacring hundreds of peaceful protestors.

That's back on too now, though. We were always BFF's though, irrespective of who's got their butt in the throne, even when they overthrow each other back and forth, even if it's the guy we just said was legitimate being overthrown.

The current regime just sentenced hundreds of people to death in a single day, they carried out the bloodiest crackdown on a protest since Tiananmen Square China in 1989, the bloodiest violence in Egypt's modern history. They are an illegitimate, un voted-for military coup d'état government that ousted the first, and only genuinely democratically elected head of state in Egypt's history of more than 5000 years, and outlawed the opposing political party, whose namesake is now used as the label they use to arbitrarily slap onto anyone they want to arrest or kill in their witch hunt. They stuffed 45 people into a van that only fits 24, leaving them to die in the nearly 89 degree summer heat, suffocated or gassed, only eight survived.

Now, while the whole world is protesting Egypt so that they return the four Al Jazeera reporters for allegedly being MB, the USA draws even closer.

This is just further proof that USA will be friends with the most brutal totalitarians, tyrants and terrorists, proving that their claims about caring about anybody's rights or wellbeing as justification for foreign policy are completely insincere. But we should know that by now.

The military regime will get 10 shiny new Apache helicopters, courtesy of the American taxpayers, many of whom are resentful about their taxpayer dollars being used to feed the starving children of their American countrymen.

Here's the story for if you want to read about it:

To make the story oddly interesting, apparently Russia were to be militarily cooperating with Egypt too! I'm not sure what happened about that as it was a few months ago.

This is what we give them:

They actually used these choppers in their massacre clampdown!

This news came about 12h after the report of Egypt buying S-35 jets from Russia, I guess they wont now

The US simply tries to keep it's allies in the ME, for some reason they think its important.

Having access to the Suez Canal is important. as for the politics of it, Obama knows that the democrats cannot suffer another foreign policy failure in the region and not be swept completely from power for a decade.

The Suez is an important trade route for the world if that is what you are asking. If you are asking for the politics--republicans and conservative DINO's. The dems are set to effectively or actually lose the Senate this fall. The GOP will gain the majority, or they will close the gap so that conservatives will strip the liberals of any power. after that, it is just a matter of the WH, and democrats are scrambling away from Obama already because even they see the writing on the wall.

Giving attack helicopters to a regime which has removed the elected government by force and murdered thousands of protestors in the streets, which imprisons journalists and passes laws which outlaw any meaningful opposition has become normal behaviour for the US of AIPAC. Sleep with dogs and you get fleas.
