Regulation-Obsessed USDA Tells Magician To Write Disaster Plan For His Rabbit

An Ozark, Mo.-based magician whose story about being harassed by USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service agents (a.k.a., “Rabbit Police”) was one of three stories highlighted in an article two years ago, Marty Hahne contacted me today with an update.

“You won’t believe what the USDA has come up with now,” Hahne wrote in an email message late Friday afternoon. “If this wasn’t so stupid, it would be funny!”

He went on to share details about his continued harassment by the USDA — all for using a three-pound rabbit in his magic act:

“My USDA rabbit license requirement has taken another ridiculous twist. I just received an 8 page letter from the USDA, telling me that by July 29 I need to have in place a written disaster plan, detailing all the steps I would take to help get my rabbit through a disaster, such as a tornado, fire, flood, etc. They not only want to know how I will protect my rabbit during a disaster, but also what I will do after the disaster, to make sure my rabbit gets cared for properly. I am not kidding–before the end of July I need to have this written rabbit disaster plan in place, or I am breaking the law.”

They can't be serious...can they??? Always cracks me up when Obama claims he’s cut government regulations.

Will this be the new required regulations for all pet and farm animals??

Trillions in debt and we're wasting time with this crap???

We need a sunset clause for all regulations congress doesn't ratify after 5 years.

I don't mean to inject fact into your well thought out argument, but I will.

While you fault Obama, if you would click on the links back, the story is from 2006.

    http://bobmccarty.com/2011/05/25/usda-rabbit-police-stalking-magicians/

Yes, you read correctly, the RABBIT POLICE, and the above story is how my buddy Gary Maurer in Hilton Head Island, S.C., was “busted” in the summer of 2006!

While I fault Obama for many things, I am not ready to fault him for USDA policy 2.5 years before he became president.

Cue excuse and the goalpost moving crew.

Is it? Not sure what you think that has to do with the thread. Or is the diversion your admission that you just blamed Obama for something that he had nothing to do with?

You mean how it was Bush's policies and ideas that actually captured Osama, and not Obama's?

I'm sure if Obama wanted to help out the small business owners, he can. After all, its his administration that is in power... or is this still "Bush's fault"??? hahahahahaha... stupid Obama supporters. I hope all them lose their jobs in this "recession"...

Yeah, as I demonstrated, the original story started in 2006.

No here is a straightforward question for you.

Is Obama responsible for the USDA policies that were in place in 2006?

Now a piece of advice. The smart thing to do here is to say,"Shoot TFM, you are right. I did not see that. I stand corrected".

The less than smart thing to do is to try and keep pretending I did not use your own article to show that you are attacking the president for things that happened 2.5 years before he became president.

No, I am talking about rabbits. If you would like to talk about Bin Laden, then leave me out of it.

Smells like The Onion....or progressive PETA has infiltrated the USDA.

    .....................................................ATTENTION FARMERS

In order to comply with new federal USDA regulations and occupational licensure requirements to own and sell livestock, you must submit for approval a detailed herd evacuation plan, and provide proof of ownership/service contract of federally approved and licensed transportation equipment/service in quantities necessary to relocate all livestock to safe harbor within 12 hours.

    update June 2011...

I now have a new rabbit inspector. A few weeks ago, a lady I didn’t recognize rang my doorbell, so I didn’t answer. An hour later, I took my dog outside for a walk, and the same lady whipped into my driveway and announced she was my new inspector. I asked if my previous one had retired or moved on, and she gave me the “happy news” that the USDA budget had been increased, and they were able to hire additional inspectors.

Yes, and the entire thing still started in 2006, so you are actually criticizing Obama for something that happened 2.5 years before he was president.

Now this error of yours has been pointed out several times now. Pretending that you were not wrong will not magically make you right. What it does is provide to me the opportunity to keep demonstrating that you are wrong, something that I enjoy immensely.

And continued and escalated under Obama, like he has done with a lot of Bush Policies. News flash for TFM, I didn't like Bushy either.

Ah, from my original post in this thread.

Cue excuse and the goalpost moving crew.

God I am (*)(*)(*)(*)ing brilliant. You have both made excuses and moved the goalposts.

Why not just admit you were wrong? Do I need to hammer it in>? Repat it all night? You faulted the president for things that occurred 2.5 years before he was president. I din't say jack fui=cking (*)(*)(*)(*) about Bush. I am announcing, with evidence, to the world that you were wrong.

    Disaster Plan for Rabbit:

In the case of natural disaster, I would want to insure that no large object falls on the rabbit. To prevent this, I would put the rabbit in a steel container , preferably with a lid.....like a large pot.

Not knowing when I could return to the rabbit, I would need to insure it has plenty of food while in the steel container. I would put carrots, potatoes, and onions in the pot with the rabbit, along with some water for him to drink.

I would also insure that the rabbit stays warm while in the pot, therefore I would build a small flame under the rabbit.

Yep, and you are still incorrect.

Whilst you blame the Obama administration, the entire story started in 2006.
