more disturbing news from the medical front. Given that 96.6% of adults engage in heterosexual sex, you get shocked to see that it's disproportionate within the homosexual/bi community.

    excerpt

Vancouver Coastal Health medical health officer Dr. Reka Gustafson said Monday that syphilis rates are at epidemic proportions, especially in the Lower Mainland's gay and bisexual communities.

In 2012, there were 371 cases reported in B.C., most of those with the disease were gay and bisexual men.

Condoms are cheap, why do we see stories of HIV and now syphilis increasing within the homosexual community?

    A couple of points here.

Really? 96.6% of adults engage in heterosexual sex? What is the source for this claim? Because a quick check of a study of sexual activity indicates nothing remotely close to your claim.

Vancouver has a population of 578,000. I came up with an incident rate of about .06%, about 6 people per 10,000, of the population having contracted syphilis, which is a curable disease.

I am not sure how on earth that qualifies as an epidemic.

Gallup poll (i've linked to the most recent one too many times to count so please stop it) shows 96.6% of adults are heterosexual and the remainder are something else be it cross dressers (transgender), bisexual, homosexual etc

as for the term "epidemic", feel free to take it up with Vancouver health which used the term.

Epidemic terminology is very loose when it comes in rates but this article from 2007 looks relevant

    Bisexuals are not homosexuals

Oh, are "heterosexual", not engaging in heterosexual sex. Big difference there.

But here is the actual poll, and nowhere is your 96.6% heterosexual supported. A significant, enough to demonstrate the error in your argument, refused to say.

Furthermore, the poll states, very clearly, that these are folks who identify one way or another. There by no means demonstrates they are gay or they are straight, but rather how they simply portray themselves.

I'm not "shocked" to see more expression of homophobia, disguised as allegedly-credible data.

As I said in your other homosexual thread- its because humans- especially men- are stupid when it comes to sex.

Finally, a resurgence in the rate of syphilis has also been observed in heterosexual populations, potentially presaging the further spread of the HIV

Continuous public awareness campaigns need to focus on the use of condoms to prevent sexually transmitted diseases.

again, you interjected your word "homophobia" in a thread which provides information which discusses an illness. Did you perhaps post within the wrong thread?
