Should we try to get this thread back to topic?
In another demonstration that the P.1 variant in Brazil is hitting harder young people, not only as mentioned currently the majority of people on ICUs are younger than 50 but 1,000 babies have died of Covid-19 over there as opposed to 43 in the US.

Do we know anything about new variants coming out of India? With over 250,000 new cases a day the opportunity for mutations must be huge.

There is one there, the one people call "double mutant" which is silly because all other variants also have multiple mutations. Some journalist got impressed that this Indian variant had two mutations on the S protein attaching sites (E484Q and L452R) which is the case for most variants, and started an alarmist article saying that it was a double mutant and somehow the nickname caught and got attached to it. Other variants have even more mutations and are not being called triple mutant, quadruple mutant, etc. The Indian variant is the B.1.617.

We've already found 77 cases of B.1.617 here. Not surprising considering our connection with India.
We've got around 2500 new cases daily at the moment and deaths down to 26.
Everything is just starting to reopen and we were due to be fully reopened by June 21st.
A third wave would end that plan.

Hopefully it won't happen due to your high vaccination rates.
