The Virginia Department of Education is moving to eliminate all accelerated math options prior to 11th grade, effectively keeping higher-achieving students from advancing as they usually would in the school system. Apparently the reason is to help promote "equity", since many black children are getting left behind. https://www.foxnews.com/us/virginia-accelerated-math-courses-equity That short story "Harrison Bergeron" by Kurt Vonnegut comes to mind. Virginia was a fairly conservative state not that long ago, until the D.C. suburb area started sprawling out across the state border and Democrats permanently took over the state government. This planned change is so crazy, there is bound to be enough objections that this will be shelved. But the very fact this insane policy came to the cusp of being implemented should tell us something.
