    Has anyone bought a VR headset yet? What do you think of this emerging, new technology?

    I just learned about the Meta Quest 2, and I plan on purchasing one this year (October 2022).

    I hope to use it for fitness, but I also want to explore virtual meetings. I hear that this might be a big business meeting feature in the future.

    By rights, I should hold off for the Meta Quest Pro for the business meeting aspect, but at a $1499.99 price tag, I think that's outrageous! Instead, I'm thinking of going for the base model Quest 2 at $399.99. That's still a high price, but it's a saner price and it's something I can save for.

    What do you think?

    So, I got one. A Meta Quest 2. I was disappointed that it can't be used outside. I was going to use it in the backyard, where there is a lot of room, but it said that the lenses can't be exposed to direct sunlight.

    And I can't play mine in the dark. I think it has to be able to "see" the hand controls.
    I've not tried to play it without Internet connectivity but imagine your connection would be very weak outdoors, even next to the house were you to try to play outdoors.
    I had a Samsung Windows VR headset that I gave away. Big cord attached to my PC never really seemed to work correctly for me.
    Kids gave me the Quest 2 and I use it pretty regularly. Great system. I have a number of VR games in Steam but my build isn't right to use them. I plan to build another Q1 2024 that should work with the Quest 2.
    Amazing value. There are better out there buy you have to be hard wired into your system and can cost a fortune. Sadly, there is a Quest 3 out there? I think they want $1,300 for it.

    Next two couple of major ones coming out. One from Apple that will cost $3,500!!!
    Then the Meta 3 at $500. The Meta 3 is on my radar. I wonder if me and the boy can play at the same time, him on my 2 if I give it to him and a new 3 for me.

    Very early impressions:
    The meh:
    1) Doesn't feel more comfortable to me than the Q2;
    2) Doesn't sound better than the Q2, but that may because I thought the Q2 sound was great;
    3) The controllers don't have the ring anymore. I used the stand the controllers up. Can't do that anymore.
    4) I hear the microphone can be meh. Seems OK to me.
    The wow factors:
    1) I tried mixed reality. It scanned my home office. Then the ceiling and walls started "having holes blasted into them" through which monsters attacked. A hoot.
    2) Pass thru is in color and is sharper than the B&W of the Q2
    3) Works much better with my PC. For some reason, Q2 completely stopped working over Air Link. This worked. More to figure out. I want to be able to play games on the virtual desktop as it looks amazing: like I'm 3 feet away from a 55" screen.
    4) Even games not made for the Q3 look brighter and more colorful. I tried After the Fall and it blew my socks off.

    Got to amend the one about it not being more comfortable than the 2. It is when playing for longer periods. While it actually weighs a few grams more, being 40% less wide, it has a different center of gravity making it seem much lighter. Just advised you get the silicon face part and upgrade the head strap. These sorta things can be gotten at amazon. Good luck! upload_2023-11-1_14-58-49.png

    Thanks. I'm pretty excited to try the Mario game that used the mixed VR. I also like how you can hook it to the PC via USB. Have done so for some of my STEAM VR games.

    I have a 10 foot USB C to C on a Windows 11 PC and STEAM VR works pretty good: but it will work wirelessly too (I have my PC wired to the router that the Quest 3 attaches to wirelessly. Supposed to get about 90 min. battery. Experimenting with Virtual Desktop too. Not total success there. I'm playing HALO and the controllers work intermittently. But I feel like I'm in an IMAX theater. Also have to play with mapping the buttons some. I was playing Borderland 2 VR on Steam and some buttons are not mapped correctly. Hope I can fix that as it is pretty cool. Other Steam VR games appear to work flawlessly. Sounds like you have a ton of fun coming to you shortly. Hope you let us all know your thoughts on it.
