He taught how to live, not to stop living. "Seek ye first the kingdom of heaven, and all other things will be added to you." That means to get your heart right, so that you will do right in all that you do.
What you're suggesting is akin to joining the military, dressing up as a General and barking orders. It doesn't work that way. Following Jesus means repentance, faith, baptism, and obedience to the rest of his teachings...such as forgiving trespass, being charitable and so on. You're supposed to practice these guiding principles in your life. It doesn't mean shuffling around in the dust and pretending to be a new age savior.
