Some would say "Yes"....and those some would be Islamic jurists.

    http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/world/how-to-properly-dispose-of-a-worn-koran/article2345586/

I sought this out when the question "Is there ever a proper way to dispose of a Koran?" came to mind. In the case of the recent incident was there a better way to handle it?

    1) Wrapping in a cloth and burying where no one would walk over it?

Nope. Where are you going to find a place where no one would walk these days?

    2) Putting in a moving body of water....

    Really? In Afghanistan?

    3) Burning. Yes burning. This is an accepted option for disposal as well.

I would argue that as long as it did not take place as part of a protest or a show of defiance that disposing of the books by burning is in accordance with Islamic law.

From what I have read, that's exactly what happened. This was a disposal, not a display...or a protest. Having said that, I understand that perception is reality and admitting wrong might be the practical thing to do.

So, if not that. What is the proper way to dispose of them? If they do have all kinds of notes in them.....(which may be radical interpretations or actual terrorist communications)....are they supposed to bring them to a mosque and drop them off? Would there not have been outrage if they had wrapped them in cloths and put them in a river that may end up being a creek in a few months?

Just playing devil's advocate here. But it does seem like an extreme overreaction that we are facing. Was disrespect really intended?

I don't know if disrespect was intended, but extreme over-reaction is what you WILL get from crazy radical Muslims. Any excuse for rioting and bloodshed.

    Those boys need jobs.

Not only will they have something else to think about, but by the time 5:00 arrives, they won't feel like going out and demonstrating.

There doesn't seem to be any indication that it was.. which makes me wonder exactly what would be an "acceptable" way to handle this (being all of a sudden in possession of a bunch of un-needed, used korans) in the future.

It seems like it might be kind of like certain arguments with your wife.......there just is no right answer.

Burning the Qu'ran is fine if you're a Muslim, and doing the disposal with due respect. Absolutely not so if you're a dumb grunt who probably has trouble reading English, leave alone Arabic...

The Korans in question that are to be burned are those that are no longer in good enough condition to be kept. You don't take a perfectly good Koran and burn it (try reading the adjacent sura, lad). What is the evidence that these were already damaged Korans?

15 people were killed around the world, when Newsweek published a fake story that guards had flushed Korans down toilets at Gitmo. Now, before you kill 15 human beings, you would think that you would wonder how in the hell anyone could flush a book down the toilet. Especially, when you follow a religion of peace.
