Why are you quoting Rush? For a guy with no science background, he was pretty astute. He needed a little scientific wordsmithing, but fact is that if all the carbon in the oceans were released in the form of CO2, the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere would be tens of thousands of ppm ,,, and alarmists get excited about 412 ppm. As circulation moves water and entrained CO2 to warmer areas, CO2 solubility decreases and it comes out of solution at the same time vapor pressure increases.

I have him in my sig because his "brilliant" words are the dumbest words ever spoken. Not one molecule of CO2 in the entire universe has ever come from H2O

Well, I didn't know this, but on my first search of this topic...

"Carbon Dioxide is present in water in the form of a dissolved gas. Surface waters normally contain less than 10 ppm free carbon dioxide, while some ground waters may easily exceed that concentration. Carbon dioxide is readily soluble in water. Over the ordinary temperature range (0-30 C) the solubility is about 200 times that of oxygen. Calcium and magnesium combine with carbon dioxide to form carbonates and bicarbonates.

Aquatic plant life depends upon carbon dioxide and bicarbonates in water for growth. Microscopic plant life suspended in the water, phytoplankton, as well as large rooted plants, utilize carbon dioxide in the photosynthesis of plant materials; starches, sugars, oils, proteins. The carbon in all these materials comes from the carbon dioxide in water.

Either you didn't know this either, or you're splitting some very fine hairs. In nature, 'water' contains (and can release) far more than H2O.

CO2 exists in water as H2CO3. It does not break down to H2O and CO2, It forms two ions in water H+ and HCO3-. Furthermore water VAPOR, the specific source of CO2 he named, contains NO CO2!!!

Do you know what a dissolved gas is? Here's a hint- there is no 'breaking down'. CO2 exists in water as ...CO2. Just like O2 exists in water as O2. Fish, for example, do not electrolysize H2O into H and O2, they breathe O2 that is suspended or dissolved in the water, unbound to any H. CO2 exists in water in precisely the same way, only at around 200 times the concentration of O2 at 'regular' temperatures.

While its true that C exists in water as one part of various other chemicals like HCO3 you mentioned, that is not what is being discussed. The CO2 dissolved in water is whats most relevent to the topic of carbon-caused climate change because of how easily it can be released from the water.

The only thing I can't figure out is whether you understand this and are trying to frame it disingenuously, or if we're actually having a legitimate misunderstanding...

Again there is NO CO2 dissolved in water VAPOR!!!

Was that the claim you're trying to debunk here? It sounds to me like the claim was that CO2 dissolved in water is released from the water along with water vapor... which is absolutely true.

No, that is your Straw Man so you don't have to admit your MessiahRushe is blessed by being too dumb to know it!
Reread my sig again, he says CO2 comes from H2O VAPOR, which is pure H2O and nothing else. It doesn't now, never did and never will.

CO2 and water form carbonic acid or H2CO3, which is in equilibrium with bicarbonate (HCO3-)and hydrogen ions (H+). ... For example, an increase in CO2 will result in increased carbonic acid formation (H2CO3) which leads to an increase in both HCO3- and H+ (\pH).

Its like I said in my first post- you're splitting very fine hairs. 'CO2 comes from water vapor' is of course technically inaccurate. However, 'CO2 comes from water vaporizing' is contextually accurate given that water in nature contains CO2 and that CO2 is released with the water vapor. Was this not the point being made?

Perhaps you should've chosen one of the many other things Rush had said that were wrong even when not decontextualized... this particular bit seems an odd hill to make a stand on.

It is not contextually accurate, water VAPOR is pure water only!

Repeating your Straw Man does not make it any less a Straw Man.
Again there is no CO2 in water VAPOR!

Do you happen to have the full quote in context with what was said before and after? I suspect the discussion was regarding the earths natural surface water emitting CO2. In that context, the blurb we're quibbling about is simply misworded but still generally accurate in that the worlds surface water does store and emit a significant amount of CO2 (among many other things). If instead the context were regarding pure H2O in a laboratory environment, then I could see where you're coming from. Was it?

You just can't admit your MessiahRushie can say something so stupid and think it's "brilliant."

And I never take quotes out of context like your MessiahRushie does!

We're going to get stories on have everybody in southern California alone, lit up the charcoal briquettes at the same time on Friday and Saturday afternoon, the amount of pollution, global warming pollution put in the sky at the same time -- and it's going to become a crisis. Barbecuing will become a crisis. Mark my brilliant words on this. That's how this stuff starts. Now, the question is: is CO2 even a pollutant? Is it an air pollutant? Because if it is, then all the water vapor on this planet is a pollutant. The vast majority of CO2 that's in the atmosphere comes from water vapor. Some of it comes from our exhaling. That's what we exhale, and guess what, the trees and the greens and the grasses need it to live, and then they breathe in the carbon dioxide and they convert it to oxygen, and we can live! It's a brilliant set up by God. So what we do in our natural existence, exhale, is now creating pollution. Now, folks, if you're going to buy into this, there's no hope for you. There's literally no hope for you!

So because he said 'water vapor' instead of just 'water' you decided it was worthy of being in your sig.

W/e man. Seems silly to me, but its ur sig, so Im glad you enjoy it.

And btw, the only Rush I've listenned to was on my dads radio when I used to work with him during summer break from college. Too mainstreamy for me. I'm more intested in talking about the CO2 than I am what Rush said. A lot of people dont even know that the bulk of the CO2 in our atmosphere eminates from (or cycles through might be a better term) our oceans.

So even when I give you exactly what you wanted, you would rather mock me as "silly" than admit your MessiahRushie is dumber than dirt.
And remember he said to "mark his BRILLIANT words on this."
