Trump’s infection is part of an ominous national trend as cases rise in most states

"Coronavirus cases have risen in 33 states and Puerto Rico since late August, and at least a dozen states have reported rising hospitalizations in recent days, according to data analyzed by The Washington Post.

The coronavirus map shows flare-ups coast to coast and from the Canadian to the Mexican border. Brooklyn is once again dealing with a spike in cases, and the state of New York on Friday reported its highest one-day case count since May 28.

New Jersey and Delaware have experienced rising numbers, as has Texas, which just recently endured a midsummer surge. Wisconsin, a critical swing state in the presidential election, has been hammered. It had logged record highs in case counts for 20 straight days as of Thursday, and recorded more than 17,000 new confirmed infections in a single week."

Ha ha. Work on your percentages. 2%, not 20.

There you are painting with your broad brush again.

I bet you believe nancy was set up to not wear a mask when she was at the salon.

We probably didn't even need a national (assuming you mean federal) mask mandate. What we needed was a national mask strategy.

Actually, we needed a national pandemic strategy. Mask wearing would simply be part of it. One in which experts would tell local government what to do in order to stop the pandemic. And then it would be local government that implemented it according to their own particular conditions. And if your local government refused to implement them, the contrast with those that do would be so notable that they would likely have had no choice.

We never had that. We don't have it even now. And we probably won't have it until January. And that only if Biden is President.

We need to plan for at least one more year of this. Even when vaccine testing is complete, most people won't be receiving it for months.

Just under 8 million positive tests results have been reported as of last August, just under 90 million tests have been administered. How many asymptomatic people with covid have never been tested because, well, they are asymptomatic and have no idea they are infected and see no reason to go get tested? WWE have no idea. At this stage of the game truthfully we have no idea how many people have contracted covid and may well never know. So yes 20% is a guess it could be less or it could be more.

Sure, but we can only work with the numbers we have. Speculating tells us nothing.

We certainly can’t formulate a risky strategy like trying for herd immunity based on wild ass guess work

Claiming 20% immunity when the real number could be and probably is a fraction of that is irresponsible.

Oh and even if it WERE 20%? It took 200,000 deaths to even get there.

So even assuming the best case... you’re talking about 700,000 deaths

    Read that slowly

If Trump could not manage to keep himself safe with limitless resources at his disposal how can we expect him to keep the nation safe?

1st once this damn bug got loose in the country we weren't going to stop it. The best we could do was slow it's progression through the country untill we found appropriate cures and Treatments for the minority whose health was seriously affected by this crap.
Fortunately we did and do have a plan, much if it has already been executed. Step a get American industry cracking on PPE and ventilators while shutting down the economy short term till we can find cures and Treatments for this crap.
Step B leave no stone unturned in the search for appropriate cures and treatments.
Step C once you have the cures and treatments slowly open the economy back up before the death toll from economic stagnation kills more people than covid.

And while a, b, c, take place get to work on a vaccine, cut all the red tape you safely can and get that done ASAP.

And if the numbers we have aren't accurate because of circumstances beyond our control is the info derived from faulty numbers useful? The problem is we don't know a very important part of the picture total number of cases as long as that variable remains unsolved all of our other answers are suspect. You can't solve an equation with two unknowns. You need two equations with the same two unknowns or you need to discover what one of those two unknowns is. Right now the answer to how many people living in the US have contracted covid is an unknown number and it will remain so for some time.

Geesh, now Christie has it too. Not good, he's obesely fat.

I'm torn between feeling bad for anyone who caught it and feeling like they brought it on themselves with reckless behavior pretending the virus is no big deal.

He was helping Trump with debate prep earlier this week. There are others from debate prep who are positive, but what I read doesn't say how many.

Trump is a super spreader. Jesus.

Well Biden's numbers were 230million dead which would be around 70% but whatever...

Get back to me when one if them dies. Trump, last I heard, doesn't even have symptoms that would get anyone not the president hospitalized. Or he was one if several people in the room that got it from whoever the super spreader was.

There is every indication that this was a “ high viral load “ event and those are VERY dangerous

Trump's doctor says they started treating him as soon as they found out. That was 72 hours ago, according to the doctor.

So, the timeline is very fishy.

Well, three republican senators who were at the Rose Garden event are now in isolation, because they have COVID. It would be ironic if they no longer have the votes.

Which in no way indicates 20%. It may be more than 2%, but I doubt 70 million people have been infected.

Almost all of those deaths came in the first three months while we were hunting a cure once had a cure and proper treatments the death toll began to fall. This is how pandemics work these days. Lots of people die while your finding a cure(s) and determining proper treatments. This happens no matter who's running the government.

But we don't know ... We do know that it is certainly more than the numbers we've found through testing.
