I have found no evidence on this downturn, many colonists were farmers so the colonies were self supporting. I think that tax was used as a rallying cry rather than the main cause of the revolution. Farmers could pay their tax in kind i.e. farm produce which was a good way to dump unwanted stuff onto the market.
Real evidence is hard to come by and America had good reason to lets say, dress the revolution for a victory over suppression because they had to weld together a nation of immigrants.
The revolution was by no way a universal uprising, only around 40% took an active part in the first years. Of the remaining 60% it was comprised of those wanted no part in revolution and those who took up arms against it.
Riots before 1776 were fairly commonplace in the colonies and usually directed against the soldiers of the crown because without a police force they were the obvious choice for the mob.
You can read the details of the riots online.

I’m with you that the rebellion was driven by money and power, because the idea that any spontaneous uprising could be driven by a undisciplined mob is unthinkable.

Your answer is obviously well researched but let's
compare that time period with what happened almost
    exactly one century later?
