I was recently watching portions of Fire Chasers, a 'docu series' on Netflix & was reminded again of my early childhood misgivings when I first watched (one of my fav movies) - Shaw Shank Redemption.

At what point are the (subjective) parole boards, admin & bureaucracy of the penal system going to be putting themselves in the gray area of being partial & inequitable? America purports to be all about Human Rights & The Bill of Rights, yet with all bloated bureaucratic systems - who watches the watchers? Well essentially, it boils down to U and I asking questions and making a ruckus when impropriety presents itself.

Having had a So Cal 'Firefighter in training' BF while living in Malibu & evacuating a number of times from so cal fires, I was drawn to this series. I came away with a pit in my stomach after watching The CA Fire chief saying "We need a larger work force to support these operations" - in a series that followed some female inmates sent off to 'fire camp'. Ignorance is bliss - alas I'm well aware of the brokenness extending to all facets of CA bureaucracy! What think U - does this seem like a slippery slope?

(The Koch brothers duplicitous, self serving BS kept nagging at me as well...)

I think if inmates are being used like labor, they should be paid a full wage, the same as everyone else. That will prevent them from taking jobs from honest people.

I agree, close parallel to arbitrarily creating a minimum wage, huh?
